Global Warming is much more boring than a soccer match.

people who say soccer is boring are the following:

- those who do not understand true teamwork at all (this isn't limited to individual athletes / basketball players)
- the impatient - good plays take 1-2 minutes to perform, not 5 seconds.
Not true. To each his own, brother, but in my case, I didn't grow up playing soccer. Here in Ohio in the 70s, only the weirdest of the weird played soccer. Today it's a whole different story. We played baseball and basketball and even tackle football...all team sports too I might add.
I don't know the reason, but for some reason those who defend soccer like to say that those of us who find it boring just don't "understand" it. What's to understand? These dudes over here pass the ball around, not being allowed to use all parts of their body, and then they try to put the ball in the goal. Real complicated.
In my opinion soccer is the most boring team sport ever.
As an American from an older generation, soccer was not a serious game when I was a kid. Everyone knew what it was and we did it in PE, but it was in the same category as dodge ball, tether ball, volley ball, kick ball, etc. - a PE sport, and not a "real" sport like baseball, football, and basketball.
Soccer is obviously a fascinating game to other people with different backgrounds, but to me it just lacks the emotional interest that any of the sports that I cared about as a kid have. I feel the same way about hockey, having grown up south of the hockey line that used to exist. Maybe it's a great sport, but it just has no resonance for me.
watching some NHL hockey this year, I have noticed regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs that despite getting outshot every game, they still have a winning record. WHY? they aren't aimlessly giving away the puck by wasting a shot. If goal scoring opportunities were a stat, they probably end up having more than their opponents despite getting outshot badly. This holds even worse in soccer where 60% of shots go wide for a goal kick and another 20% get saved and a counter attack occurs. In some cases, these numbers can actually add up to 100% in some games signifying every shot was wasted. At least in Ice Hockey, if the shot gets saved you can still try and win back the puck with a faceoff where as if a Soccer shot gets saved, possession changes. As for the flopping - trust, this infuriates true soccer fans as well.

I wish they would have a shot clock in soccer. I don't know how it would be applied, but you would a helluva lot less stalling. Every time I watch a match there are teams trying to kill the clock by flopping or triangle passing.
Also, put a couple of officials on the field. This way you can ousts the players for flopping. That is part that pisses me off the most...*&%#$ flopping.
Golf.

Because to counter it, soccer teams would have really defensive setups. It would actually reduce scoring to the point where most games ended 0-0
A great example of what you brought up was this weekend's Liverpool-West Ham match. Liverpool plays heavy possession and West Ham put every player behind the ball. Liverpool never had a decent shot on net, and when there was space to shoot, West Ham clogged the box with 6-7 guys to block the shot. 0-0 Final score. The West Ham counter attack was poor and basically hoofed the ball into the Liverpool back four every time.
I watch a decent amount of Liga MX(Mexican league) and most teams just look to attack. They don't backpass often and it creates a very open game. It is entertaining watching the quick counter, but most shots on net are pretty weak attempts because they didn't wait and look for a better opportunity.
Cricket: which other sport do you stop halfway through to have a bite to eat. The matches can last for 5 days!
Baseball
Girls/Womems lacrosse
pretty much any womens sport

Also, the comment about eliminating the offside rule demonstrate perfectly how much u guys don't get it.
That was my suggestion to eliminate the offside rule. Apparently I don't get it. But please tell me, what would it matter if you planted a player down by the other team's goalie? The other team would almost have to keep someone down there to defend. It would change the game, possibly enough so that we "mmuricans" might actually like it.
Since you apparently "get it" you should get your soccer pals together and play a demo game without the offsides rule. Let me know how it turns out. I'm guessing it will even be more suspenseful for the players.
The offside rule is already used in defensive tactics brah, and the attacking team has to factor in a number of things to get a decent move together because of it! The positioning of the players, the timing of the pass, the timing of the forward's run, they all have to get it right for a successful attacking move.
Watching American Football I see the same elements factored into a successful play more often than not, just with less commercial breaks before half time.

BINGO - This KILLS American sports. Not only does it kill any momentum the players have developed (every 8-10 minutes or so), but it also aggravates the fans who are watching it on TV.
Another topic: Its been discussed many times that the average American sports viewer is only interested in the stats of the athletes and thinks they are better or not based on it. In soccer, Stats do not tell how effective defenseman and midfielders are. you actually have to watch the sport to tell how effective they are.

Because soccer is born as a "Dribbling game", where you have to dribble the defense team with the ball.
Passing the ball to a player that just stands next to the opponent goal, removes that dribbling element, witch is the main point of the sport and the most important skill.
this explain it pretty well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiwmR6CC0Bkwithout offside both them could just stand inside the opponent team goal area, waiting for a long pass from their goalkeeper.
OMG! Now I really don't get it! You have offsides because it is a "dribbling game"??!! Therefore, you must dribble??!! Call it what you want, I thought the object was to win the game by scoring more goals than your opponent, whether it is by long passes, short passes, dribbling, heading, whatever.....just get the ball into the opponent's net. But nooooooooo.....we must dribble.
Dude, if football was played with no offside, teams would probably just defend deep in high numbers to crowd out the attacking team. The second the attacking team loses the ball, they'd all drop back into defence to avoid being done by a counter-attack!
Hang on, that's almost like American Football, only the clock doesn't pause on stoppages.

I think that soccer is boring since there is little scoring. 2, 3, 4 goals in 90 minutes. In comparison, hockey has a few more goals and game play is super fast.

Hell yeah, quantified entertainment!
While we're at it, let's make marathons less boring by running them on ice!
Milking a cow is more boring.
I like rugby cause my team scores points
for the soccer purist its often
a 1 nil thrill or the bore of a 1 all draw
I agree with golf and NASCAR. All three a bit less exciting than NHL, and a good distance behind curling, which is like the Super Bowl compared to the average soccer match.
Soccer is boring because there just isn't enough scoring. Make the goal one meter higher so we could see some points. A 7-6 match is a LOT more exciting than 1-0.
Funny how football is so boring yet it is the most popular sport in the world. If you implement high scoring into Football you lose the suspense, just like Basketball, which btw is boring because it is too predictable and high scoring.
