4:21, 4:25, 4:30, 4:43, 4:56
the last two were during the XC mile time trial, but it was still 4 laps around a track.

4/400-something
We had more sub-5:00 guys on our team, but they were underclassmen.
4. And 2 of them were girls.
40 kids in my graduating class, we got lucky with the girls.

My bad, did I write chick? I meant a missy or a lassy or sweet thing or babe. Chick was a total misstatement.
And you fail to mention that there are no recorded cases of chickens even attempting to enrole in highschool.
3/140
High 4:20s
Low 4:30s
4:58 (me)
88 kids
We had 7 boys break 5 - likely the best distance running class ever from the school.
That's 7.95%
Yes, I agree. One thing that we had going for us is there was no soccer program yet to siphon off talent. We also had luck in terms of talent. My soph and junior year we did not qualify for state XC (this is Michigan), so it is not like this was one of those programs that continually produces great teams. Then, suddenly we won the entire deal my senior year. Plus, we didn't train that hard. Everyone thought I was crazy to run 40-50 miles a week my senior year. It was not until I got to college did I realize that was low mileage for a sub 9:20 2 mile.
Only one of a class of 970 kids with a 4:54. Not really a strong running school at that point.
I was the only one in my class of about 220 to do it. Running ain't popular! That was my junior year of school, we had kids going:
4:10 (sr)
4:12 (sr)
4:17 (sr)
4:25 (me)
4:30 (sr)
all for 1500.
Maybe one more senior broke 4:40, I'm not sure. The class above mine was definitely more into track, 1.81% breaking 5 for the mile or its equivalent instead of .45%.
1, myself, broke it in 4:50. Class size was 37.
definitely at least 5/242. certainly 2 more had the ability to do so, but were 800 guys I don't know if they actually ran it or not. I think they did, but I don't know, so my official count is 5, but the real number might be 6 or 7.
4/68=5.9%
4:28
4:40
4:48
4:52
had a multi-eventer that may have done the equivalent in the 1500m and there was a hurdler/400m/800m guy who would have been very close.
also had a junior pull a 4:34 out of nowhere and our chubby little sophomore ran somewhere in the 4:50s
3/450 times were all under 4:30 though

When I was a senior (actually when I was a junior too), we had 4 guys in the school who could break 5 minutes; 3 of us were seniors, one a junior. For me the following is correct. I could be off a little with remembering about the other three.
Me - 4:32 (open) 4:30 in a relay
JS - 4:36
TM - 4:40
PS - 4:44 (he did that as a junior...dipped down to 4:36 as a senior after I had graduated)
The TM referenced above only ran the 1600 one time...in a 4x6400 relay that our team won. He was a sub 2:00 800 meter runner and probably could have run faster had we given him more attempts.
Was that the year you won the Oak Harbor Invitational?
1 out of approx. 200, but he was closer to 4:00 than to 5:00 so he carried the load for the rest of us goons. He probably broke 5:00 100+ times between mile races, two-mile splits/averages, XC race splits and practice repeats, so our class just suffered from an unequal distribution of wealth is all.
There was another guy who ran just over 6:00 in the 5th grade (on the high school track, so legit) but who played basketball rather than run track/XC later. I'm sure he could've done 4:59 at the very worst as a high schooler had he given track a try.
54 in my class. I'm the only one who broke 5 (4:40). My classmate ran 5:01 after running the 4x8 and the 3200 in 80 degree temps. I'm pretty sure he could have gone under if he'd been fresh. He ran 4:48 in a mile repeat workout in the fall of his freshman year of college.
Graduating class of 501. We had 2:
4:24
4:45 ish
We had a gal that was close... probably 5:05...
Class of 88... class of 89 and 90 won state.... Our underclassmen were pretty good. 3 or 4 sophs under 5 my sr. Year...
Class of ~450. We had 3 get under 5:00. I was hit 4:30. The other two low 4:40s and both had various injuries where they raced only a handful of times our junior & senior seasons. There is another guy who may have, but don't remember for sure at this point. Also had a girl in our class who may have run around 5:00 (~2:15 800m and a good XC runner), but don't think she broke it
We had 10 out of 647. Probably had 20 going under 5 among all clases at the time
Got ya'll beat.
I was the only one out of 200 that broke 5...or 6!
We didn't have CC and we had a couple 2:25-2:30 800 guys who could have broken 6 but never attempted the 1600. We had a 21 min 5k girl who may have been able to break 6?
