You guys need to lay off the attacks on his faith. Look at him like any athlete that just didnt get it done when it counted.
I think he really really needs a coach, maybe Salazar or back to Mammoth Lakes. But he's just got a few more years and he'll be preaching or whatever for living, he needs to make hay while the sunshines.

It's fascinating to see the Anti-Christian obsession play out on threads like this. Not. It's boring and predictable and says nothing about Hall and everything about the posters.l.
It's absolutely fair game to question how Hall's religious beliefs impact his performance. His church espouses faith-based healing practices--did that nonsense have a role in his injury? He has said that he prays for guidance on his workout structure. Did that nonsense have a role in his recent struggles? Completely Iegit targets.
There's also the subtext that is always present in Hall's interviews, that "God" has a special interest in his running. It's not enough that Hall has received great genetic gifts and has worked really hard; he also has to imagine that his athletic skill is evidence of a special relationship with an omnipotent supernatural being. Can't you understand why people find this irritating?
Also, nobody is saying Hall shouldn't be free to worship whatever he chooses. I respect his right to have nonsensical beliefs. But I don't have to respect the beliefs themselves.

I was being tongue-in-cheek. But your point is well made.
Lucky for me God doesn't exist.
It's funny - Meb has dropped out of a London marathon to save something for a New York marathon before."...I decided to give London a shot because I had been in such good shape beforehand."I wound up dropping out at about 16 miles. My right Achilles had begun hurting after compensating for the altered left foot mechanics as a result of a blister. It's not easy to drop out in London. The volunteers urge you to keep going. I was still top 20 at this point. They almost push you back on the course if you're not bleeding. One guy offered to stretch my Achilles. I also had heard that race director David Bedford, who set the world record in the 10,000 in the 1970s, disliked dropouts. But I knew that forcing the issue on a bad Achilles could jeopardize my chances of running the trials in November or even ruin my career. So for the third time ever, I dropped out of a race." (Keflezighi, 2010)He then talks about how he chatted with Geb, Baldini, and Khannouchi in the bus ride back to the hotel about their dropouts in the same race. I made him feel better that he was in good company. I'm hoping Hall can figure it out and find success in the world stage in the future. For now, huge props to Meb - wish I saw the race.

Ha, saving WHAT for new york? Saving his weak ass effort that lets the lead pack go and finish 10th? At this point who cares about hall? I was disgusted by hall before his race and now it's multiplied by 100.
Meb is everything that hall is not. Can you even imagine Meb dropping out of the Olympic marathon? The thought is laughable.
more importantly, 6am is watchable on the east coast in the us. 4am is not.
he's right about the late start. no one in Britain wants to leave the house before 10am on the weekend. few summer road races start earlier than that.
Preaching in arcane dialect, while sounding all meaningful and wise, usually makes you look like a condescending nutjob. Also, it does not change the fact that God is an invention of humanity's wishful thinking - an answer to fear of death and fear of not being in control. It's a fantasy.
[Quote] [Agree... was sad to see, but ultimately a wise choice, I think. Desi made a similar hard choice and got slammed for it last Sunday. I hope the same doesn't happen to our male marathoners today.]
They will get slammed, thats how sport is. Hopefully they can ignore it and move on. Might be a good decision to skip fall marathons and focus on the spring though.
Hall's training has been in question for a while, it's not just bashing his religion. People around him and in the marathoning world were concerned that he would not be prepared and that seems to be the case here. Throw in the fact that you saw him in that commercial every 5 minutes during this whole olympics and the dnf is pretty embarrassing.
The USOC should add a clause to the Marathon Olympic trials. It is simple - if you are injured or suspect injury going into the Olympics your spot will be replaced by either the #4 person or the next best person.
There is absolutely no point in letting these injured athletes run it out just so they can get the olympic experience.
Meb is a baller and reliable in championship races. Abdi and Hall, thus far, have proven they are unreliable.
Or Chicago
The Bible clearly makes the Sabbath the last day of the week, but does not share how that corresponds to our 7 day week. Yet through extra-biblical sources it is possible to determine that the Sabbath at the time of Christ corresponds to our current 'Saturday.' Therefore it is common Jewish and Christian practice to regard Sunday as the first day of the week (as is also evident from the Portuguese names for the week days). However, the fact that, for example, Russian uses the name "second" for Tuesday, indicates that some nations regard Monday as the first day

Since Sunday is the first day of the week and you are talking about Saturday (the 7th day) you look quite ignorant. You make no sense.
Karma to Abdi & Hall. They've both criticized the fans, so glad they DNF'd.
Post of the year. Hall pisses me off whenever he open his mouth.
DNF at 10 miles? What a joke. Why even start the race?
Why are you turning this into an anti-religion thread? Who cares what Hall's personal beliefs are? It doesn't make an iota of difference. What DOES make a difference is when you substitute ANY beliefs for normal training, especially on the world class level.

Hall brings it on himself. I.e. - Listing God as his coach.
Salazar is out because you have to be a Nike athlete. (I think I read that Mo switched from Adidas for this reason.)He has already burned bridges with Mahon in Mammoth.Since he sometimes trains in Flagstaff, McMillan would seem a better choice (also since they have a Marathon focus with Gotcher and Arciniaga). However, Hall would need to get used to the Lydiard-based structure.

ttc is right on. Hall turned the discussion to religion because EVERYTIME he opens his mouth it's about God.
