Just like when he was "back" after that 27:01 and was disappointed after getting leveled after a 12:55-something when the winner ran 12:45. He probably still has it in him, but words are just words.
Kenenisa had no business running that 5000m in Paris, and he probably shouldn't have, but with all the b.s. coming from the Ethiopian Federation, he probably felt that a perfunctory effort might get him a spot in the shorter race. However, when it came time to play, the Ethiopians showed they might have the greatest 5000m Olympic team which has ever been assembled, and a Kenenisa just past his prime and coming back from a layoff was not ready to show the form requisite to joining them at that distance.
However, when it came time to play at 10,000m, the greatest distance runner in history said, OK, boys, let's see what will happen here, and the man won again.
Do you really think that Mo Farah can compete with Kenenisa Bekele mentally? Please. Galen Rupp? Now this is no knock on Galen Rupp, but Kenenisa has run the second half of a 10,000m race faster than Galen has run an open 5000m race. This was the 2003 WC 10,000m race, in which Kenenisa ran 26:49 (one second off Rupp's pb), with the last 5000m in 12:57 (one second faster than Rupp's open 5000pb).
Now, you will object that this was 9 years ago, and this must be acknowledged, but Kenenisa can probably run 12:52 and 26:40 currently, and that combination, with his unmatched tenacity, will yield him gold on Saturday.
