For all of you LDR types, you don't run even splits in an 800, it's really an aggressive race closer to a long sprint and you have to get after it. For most 800m athletes, your 1st lap is almost always significantly faster than your second. Even when you see someone running from the rear and kicking hard off the final turn, they are still ususlly running positive splits.
In the case of Alysia, if you are capable of running a 51x 400m, which means going out in 55x is comfortable for you and something the other girls can't do, why not do it. Going out hard, putting 30 meters on the field and hanging on the second lap might look strange to LDR types, but that is as much a tactic as anything else.
Btw, the men do this as well, in fact all of the 1:41x performances were run from the front just behind the rabbits and usually went out in around 48x. The 800m is an event were the best you can hope for is to be maintaining at the end...there realy is no such thing as a kick in the 800m and if you have a probelm with hurting, the 800m is a bad choice of events.
