Beach makes it to nationals with a pr and 3rd fastest time in the East region of 1:47.75.
he lost his quarterfinal

It's a good job you don't coach the decathletes at Cornell, because at this level 2 in two weeks is too many if you want a good performance in the second one.
Beach has already one an NCAA championship for Duke this year.

It's a good thing you don't teach English at Princeton. Aside from you not knowing how to spell, Rojo is right on this one.

Regardless of Rojo's opinion on this, Beach is now going to NCAAs in two events. Beach must be the first NCAA athlete to make the championships in the 800 and long jump. Pretty cool double.
Did you all happen to notice that Curtis also advanced to the NCAA Finals in the Long Jump with a leap of 7.60m (24-11).
Rojo is a college coach. His bias on the subject is pretty obvious. When he has a 10k guy and has him double 3 weeks before the trials, it will be very clear where is priorities lie.

So, he's not doing the decathlon at NCAA nationals? But he will do it at the Olympic Trials? That's surprising to me. So, we get a pretty good look at his 800 ceiling with him only doing the long jump, hopefully not on the same day at NCAA's. With this new 1:47.75 pr and his coach saying that he shouldn't be overlooked at NCAA's, maybe he already has a 1:45 in him already on this kind of light mid d training. But it'll take mid to low 1:44 to win.

I don't know if it'll take 1:44 to win. Of course, Jock and Martin have run 1:44 this year but, in championship races, it's common for the first lap to go slow. I wouldn't be surprised if 1:46 wins it.
You may be right, but Jock likes to take it out fast and Loxsom will likely be right behind him for 500 or 600. Loxsom, by the way, split 45.93 tonight in the 4x400 (top split was David Verburg at 44.13, with a few others low to mid 44's, like Torrin Lawrence and Tony McQuay (44.2):

You didn't even attempt to read that sentence in its entirety.
I wouldn't say we'll get a look at Beach's 800 ceiling. He's still training as a decathlete. He just happens to be competing in only two events.
The NCAA must not have counted on anyone attempting the long jump/800 double as the men's long jump starts at 5:30pm tonight and the men's 800 prelims start at 6:15pm.
yes Satch lives, survived my cancer operation, now taking radiation treatment. . As to Beach, WILL NOT EVEN BE CLOSE TO MAKING LJ FINAL about 24-6- In 800 will make final and finish 6th in final 1.47-- TRIVIA ? - WHO was last Duke dude to run 2 or more events in same NCAA outdoor meet?GIVE YEAR AND EVENTS-

This is a good point. Does anyone know how this will work? Will Beach have to worry about doing jumps in the 30 minutes leading up to his heat? I assume he will either have to forgo a standard mid-d warmup to get jumps in, or he will have to jump after running an 800, or both. None of this sounds fun.
I could look it up, but what section is he in? if he's not in section 1 he won't have to jump before his 800. If that's the case though, he will be jumping fairly soon after and could be jumping on dead legs but as a decathlete should also be used to it.
I don't know anything about sprinting or the decathlon, but I am guessing the reason that the 1500 is the very last event is that it's the most draining. Also notice that the last event on day 1 in the 400, the second longest sustained effort in the event. Not that other events don't make you tired, but the longer the sustained effort, the longer the recovery.
Also, being used to it doesn't mean it isn't a handicap. If I run up and down hills every day I will still race a hilly 5k slower than a flat one. The 800 will probably seriously hinder his LJ performance.

That's got to be one of the most bizarre doubles in history! Those 2 events are not really compatible with each other!
This ought to be interesting to see how it turns out. I'd say his 800 stands a MUCH better chance of placing than his long jump though.
