I have been running since the early 1970's. The first race I ever ran at with Rodgers was 1980 Cherry Blossom 10-miler. Even after winning for the third year in a row and breaking US record, Rodgers hung around for a good three hours after, still there after most runners and spectators had left. He was exactly as nice, attentive and personable to people then as he is now.
I have met Shorter a few times at Boston expo and Falmouth, the Utica Boilermaker, and have only memories of a polite intelligent man who was not aloof at all.
