Talent-wise, I don't think Manzano is in the top 3 of today's American milers.
I think Wheating, Lomong and Centrowitz have more ability.
So if Manzano even makes another American team, I think it will be a good achievement.
I base this off of Wheating and Lomong having faster PR's.
Let's compare the PRs of Lomong and Manzano for 800/1500/mile.
Lomong: 1:45.58/3:32.20/3:53.18
Manzano: 1:44.56/3:32.37/3:50.36
Yes, Lomong is slightly faster at 1500 but Manzano is quite a bit faster for the mile and 800. In fact, Mazano's 800 PR is the same as Wheatings' and faster than Jock or Andrews, who should both compete for a spot in the 800.
But I never compared Manzano to those other runners. I just stated my belief that he did not overachieve.
It is my opinion that between Manzano and Lomong, Manzano is the more talented. I also think he has a better chance for a medal because of his ability to kick. You disagree, and that's fine. I'm looking forward to see how it all plays out.
I'll end with the clip of Manzano out-kicking Lagat in England last summer.
