poor vid, but this is what rupp wants to do off a quick pace.

It appears Rupp's best chance is to set a hard pace from the beginning, get out to a commanding lead, and try not to blow up (i.e. not play the tactical game Lagat is so good at). Otherwise, those with better kicks will take it at the end after a slow start. Doesn't this sound like a classic Pre strategy?

this would be true at sea level, but at altitude it may be harder for Rupp to go out hard from the gun. It will probably be another 200m kick race.
Could you elaborate on this? How are these structured in terms of training philosophy?

Lagat uses two 10-week prep schedules, with racing between. Two peaks. .
A kick race with Lagat is a great training exercise for Rupp.
Agreed, Rupp is still learning and in training. Bernie is the teacher. Rupp the follower.

So Dan Rather trolls LRC?! Who knew?

In addition to what Dr. Li has said in symposiums, there was an article in RT a couple of years ago, and also see British Milers Club Journal, Spring 2009, pp22-23.
Lagat does relatively low mileage and everything fast. Very little on the track until near the end of a phase. Long runs like 14 miles @5:15-5:30 pace starting early in a phase. Hills weekly, and heavy emphasis on hard tempo training (on roads). Toward the end of a phase, he does intervals like 8X300@1500 pace with 45 sec, 10X200 in 27 with 60 sec, 4X800 in sub-2 with 2 min....
The coy old fox is going to catch young little hare on the last lap, don't hate it, its just nature.

Time to step up to the plate Galen. I don't think you're as good at 3000 as you and AS think you are.....
Rupp just got toasted! What a joke.
Looks like Rupp just conceded.
lololol at rupp
Well Rupp looked terrible tonight, and made everyone who thought he could beat Lagat look silly. Even Lagat looked baffled of how easy it was to get another title.

You wouldn't? I would, and...

.... so does Lagat. If it is a truly tactical kicker's race, Lagat wins (unless there is something seriously wrong with him). Even if it isn't he probably wins, but he DEFINITELY wins if it is a true kicker's race.
BRObius, what do you think of Rupp vs Lagat as far as kicks go now?
Lagat threw down 25 last lap. If Rupp had been with him (which he was nowhere near), he would have been dusted.
Nothing against Rupp, but he was doomed from the start.
He had to take the lead and it was just another day at the office for Legat. Three laps to go and he holds up three fingers to confirm and just takes it home.
How embarrassing for Rupp. Get's blasted and loses by 9 friggin seconds. Unreal. Lagat destroyed the field.
I know there are a lot of other guys he'll have to contend with... But after that, I'm thinking Lagat looks damn good for the gold in London.
what was so unreal about it, a Kenyan won. it's not like that is unusual.
It would have been one thing if Rupp had been dusted in the last lap, but he wasn't even there at the end. Probably his worst performance in awhile.
