Ok, just to clarify for everyone who decided I was talking about Ritz, rather the fact that THAT particular quote was chosen by the "powers that be," I don't read any negativity towards Ritz in my posts. Dathan has always been one of my favorite runners and many of the things he does have inspired me. Many of you on this thread have pointed out how simple this quote was, and for the idiot who said Ritz wasn't trying to be inspirational, that has nothing to do with my original point. I never said he should try to be, I said the quote was trite and cliche. Ritz had nothing to do with its placement on the front of the website.
While I'm nitpicking, however, I will admit I was wrong about the attitude of America's top runners. Letsrun sees a similar debate flit in and out of threads, but I realized it's silly for me to assume Dathan doesn't want to be the best in the world just because he isn't. I would venture a guess that he does want to be the GOAT, it just takes a lot of little things falling into places that haven't happened for him. *shrug* again.
