This is the thread the author is referring to:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=4240266
It got "hot" on LetsRun.com last week.
After the second post it was apparent it was a bunch of trolls attempting to troll, but I didn't see it as trying to be in a negative way. "I heard he took his talents to south beach..."
They were doing a pretty good job of trolling so I left it up. It had morphed almost into a Jason Rexing type thread and it was apparent from the responses that people knew what the purpose of the thread had become.
I figured, "These guys are pretty clever, if you can't figure out what this thread is about, then you just don't get it."
And we have the "Report a Post" feature for posts people find objectionable. I don't see any posts in that thread that were reported that we didn't remove.
German Fernandez gets his fair share of criticism but that's because people know his talent, know what he has done in the past and want him to do well in the future. Sure some of it is over the top but it's that way in every sport people care about. LeBron James is arguably the best basketball player on the planet and he gets ripped everywhere.
Our sport is so off the radar, the assumption by some is we're all supposed to be positive. That includes fans and journalists. In our sport most of the journalists are more fans than anything else and that's why you see them clapping at the end of press conferences in Daegu and posing for pictures with the athletes.
You think Boston Red Sox fans are full of positivity now on the Red Sox forums?
I do love it when I meet people and they feel the need to say, "I don't go to the forums" or they don't go "very often." Why would I care? That's their choice, but usually when they say that I don't believe them. Why say it?
And for the record, Matt McCue didn't say LetsRun.com is a joke. He asked why no one had anything positive to say. I think the answer is pretty apparent. The thread was taken over by trolls.
