What a bunch of pussies. Think John Walker drank chocolate milk after hammering 16 quarters at 61 seconds? Beer (probably steinlager in Johns case) and a leg of lamb.
Of course John Walker is known for the greatest running quote: "ALL I WANT TO DO IS TRAIN LIKE AN ANIMAL AND DRINK BEER.”
I believe Rod Dixon was the man who is responsible for that quote.
Horchata. In Europe, they sell the rice milk in grocery stores, etc...like the equivalent of choco milk in the US. It's delicious, tastes like a cinnamon milk shake, and is meanwhile quite healthy.
I like the Recoverite + milk + a banana blended into a smoothie.
PLEASE! there is no need for these drinks. All the extra nourishment you use, the weaker it makes you. Plus that stuff is full of artificial crap.
I do however, drink tea before and after runs habitually.
lot of sugar and a little milk
You should all be drinking freshly juiced juice!! http://fatsickandnearlydead.com/

I've been wondering for a while - is chocolate milk actually better for you than regular milk? Doesn't it have a ton of sugar in it? why is chocolate milk better than regular milk?
Problem with choc milk is that it is made from the absolute bottom of the milk barrel. We're talking blood, pus, everything that they don't want in regular milk. I worked in a dairy for a number of years as a kid. It's laughable what quality of milk they get away with selling as chocolate. The color covers up a lot of sins.
Mix your own choc milk and drink less pus...

Fluid, Endurox, Powerbar, Recoverite, something else? I've use Endurox in the past but I'm looking for something a little less expensive... BUT if nothing else is close to it's performance, I'll keep shelling the $$ out for it.
I would not consume any of these expensive, synthetic recovery drinks. Many of them are toxic and there is no telling what harm they may cause in the long term. Try coconut water. My favorite is Nature Factor's organic young coconut water. It's marketed as an isotonic sports drink, but much better for your health than the synthetic stuff. Great drink.
I totally love the taste of horchata. Unfortunately it's loaded with sugar and so are bananas. Have you tried Bonavitas R12? It taste just like Horchata! No joke! I got hooked on it a few weeks ago after switching from the P90x recovery drink. Which also has too much sugar. But this R12 stuff is low on sugar, high on protein, vitamins, minerals & antioxidants! Which is uncommon in a recovery drink. Anywho. You should def give it a try if you like Horchata! Aye! Aye! Aye!

Smells like a used car salesman!
HFCS is bad for you, please read Michael Pollan's book, the Omnivores Dilemma.
OP you should read THRIVE, best source for recovery by far...
I've gone through spurts where I would bite the bullet and buy one of these big guys:
Costs more upfront for sure, but if you know you are going to keep buying the smaller containers than there is no point in wasting money and not buying in bulk.
However $200 for recovery drink just doesn't make sense to me. So unless you are sponsored and have lots of extra cash, just stick to chocolate milk, you wouldn't even know the difference anyway.
I mix about 2 cups soymilk with a scoop of whey protein...this is close to 30g of protein, about the right amount. I should start blending a banana in there with it to increase CHO content and sneak more fruit into my diet.
Milk is said to be the best because it beat Gatorade in a study...Gatorade has no protein at all so that was kind of obvious. It causes havok though in my stomach...not drinking it regulary seems to have caused lactose intolerance.
I like the idea of making your own with whey protein and bananas, actually sounds good too. I'd add a little milk to mine and maybe some flaxseed and call it a day.
Coconut water mixed with whey protein, baker's chocolate, cayenne pepper (a dash), cinnamon, and agave syrup.
Hmmm, I guess I better up my "all natural" game. ;)

Dairy is one of the most inflammatory anything you can drink. Caseine (the protein in milk) has been a known carcinogen for a decade or more. But thanks to the milk lobby (spike lee's milk mustache, etc) you rarely hear much of this.
Stay away from milk. Stay away from Chocolate milk. For heaven's sake we are the only species on the planet that consumes the secretions of another species.
The best recovery drink is the drink that has the most oxygen in it (H20). After that, get in some good calories from actual REAL food.
Baloney! Where's your scientific data?
