I think Oshier can break four, he said thought about sub 4 for state champs but decided not to run crazy to try to get it and ran 4:00.83 (4:02 converted). With a bigger stage and more focus, he can do it.

Yeah, he sort of reminds me of a runner Ivan Drago, the guy in Rocky IV. Maybe Oshier will be Rocky. ; )
YEAAAH JANTZEN IS GOING TO ROCK LV!!
GO ROCKY!
Adidas deserves a lot of thanks and credit for putting this together.
This is the sort of lineup many of us would've loved to see in xc this past Dec but didn't because of the NXN FL races splitting the fields. Should be a great race whatever the outcome, and hopefully a bunch of the guys will score new pr's.
Anyone know if the organizers will provide a 1600 split for guys whose state records are metric?

Verzbicas just shattered the 2M record and while GF could have run faster than that in a pro race (and certainly had he been healthy for years, as Verzbicas has been), Verzbicas also took 7 seconds off the longstanding 8:36 record of Jeff Nelson, which was done against pros. Verzbicas has the mile credentials already. I don't think that anyone stands a chance against him in a fast race. In a sit and kick race in 4:10, he could lose. But he is fully capable now of going well under 4. He has been trained by Eastern European pros (his parents) for years and is much more fully developed for that reason. The other guys may improve more in college and later than he does because they have not had the same caliber of coaching. On the other hand, he was a triathlete until recently.
The only part I disagree with is that Lukas would lose a 4:10 sit and kick race... He already proved he could win one of those at NBIN, in the third race of his triple... Every indication is that he is both fresher and fitter for this Saturday. In any case, there is no chance that LV let's this race go out slow

LV's training, especially the volume has not been crazy, it been a lot less than some guys. And, it has been pretty standard...nothing too extrodinary.
if Austin Mudd runs the Dream Mile, I will urge you to take a look at seriously considering him for the win. His kick is legendary, and after seeing him make a 4:03 look easy with a 24 sec last 200, I would think hed be in the hunt. I do not think he is a sub 4:00 guy, but I believe he could go 4:01 for the full mile. The pacing at the Indiana state meet was bad, everyone went out hard, and with even 60s, Mudd could kick to an even faster time in the end. He bascially just sat on Walden the whole time and let him dictate the pace. I have no reason to believe he would do otherwise against Lukas or Oshier. He has shown that he is comfortable with both a fast pace and a slow one, and has in him another gear that I haven't seen in awhile. Mudd knows where his strengths are and should be in the hunt for NBN and/or the dream mile win. I'm not saying he is a shoo in, it will be extremely difficult to beat those guys, but being from Indiana, I'm rooting for him. Don't sleep on Walden either, he is hungry.
I really want to see video of this supposed 24 second last 200. I've heard people talk about the video who were not there in person, so there must be a video of it somewhere...
Nevermind. I found it.

The idea that he can't kick or this Oshier kid has a better kick is just foolish. LV kicked with a 3:49 miler in a mile race against professionals. A race where only one pro outkicked him. So if the race is slow he will win. If the race is fast he will win. The only way he won't win is if he's sick or falls. Reading some of these posts it's almost as if everyone has forgotten what this kid has accomplished this year. It also it appears he is improving now that he is more focused on running.
You heard it here first. Oshier 3:57 LV 3:58 Cheserek 3:59 Mudd 4:00 Joe Rosa 4:03
I can't believe only 2 Oregon recruits are in this race they just brought in the best cross country class ever this year Lukas V will win hopefully Geydon takes 2nd but probably will get 3rd. I just wish i new what the Oregon women brought in for track and field recruits for next year the men brought in 20 or so stud athletes and the sure to be number 1 class in the Nation for the second year in a row ;)
Doesn't anyone else realize that sub 4 minute mile pace is going to kill Gedyon, Oshier, and Mudd? I'm glad you guys are speculating, but Lukas just ran 8:29.
Also, who said Lukas doesn't have speed or is a true distance runner? The kid's stride is long and he has shown that he has a bit of a kick. He won this race last year in 4:04 holding off Rosa, and he beat Gedyon in the indoor mile off a 8:40 two mile and 5k the day before. No way anyone is as good as Lukas. Those who get close will be having a good race.
I agree with you, sort of. I hate to say it about the guy with the top time, but I don't see any way Oshier wins. If the pace is what it's supposed to be, and the winning time is sub-4 to 4:00, LV takes it. Nobody else can handled a sustained, consistent pace like that as well as him. if the winning time is 4:01 or higher, Mudd wins it. I think his kick is stronger than the others. I think several others can run as fast a last 400 as him, if that's when the move is made, but they can't close the last 200 like he does. If he's in contact he takes it.
I'd be totally fine with being proved wrong. Just having fun with predictions.

Oshier just ran a 4:00 dude. After running a 4:10 the day before! Oshier took the entire race and just manhandeled a very talented Geydon. And Cheserek will certainly be able to handle a "sub 4 minute mile pace" he goes out in 1600s in like 53 seconds, 1:57 at the 800, and still runs a 4:05 split. This is gonna be closer than you think.
VERZBICAS IS A CHUMP. JANTZEN RUNS HIS WARMUPS BAREFOOT AWWWW YEAH. VERZBICAS LOOKS LIKE A WOMAN!!
JANTZEN IS 6'5" BRO. HE CAN STEP ON THAT LITTLE GIRL. VERZBICAS IS A COMMUNIST PIG!! NATO FOREVER!!
The flotrack adidas website has to be one of the least informative and hardest to navigate websites ever. I only want to know 2 things...
1) What time does the race start
2) Will I be able to watch it live in any capacity.
Thanks.
I like LV for the win and I am enjoying all of the speculation on here about how the race will play out (Mudd will win if he's in contact, etc.)
There's one more wrinkle that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet. Even if it's fast (as I hope and expect it to be), tactics will play a role. These guys are used to leading the whole race or sitting on one guy and then kicking. Competing against a full field of top-notch talent is a different animal altogether. This race isn't just about talent and peaking at the right time, the winner will have to nail the tactics.

I can't believe that some people believe that was a 24 second final 200. More like 26.
Nearly everyone here is dismissing Cheserek.
HE WILL DOMINATE!
The kid is not only more talented than your great white hopes (he's run 49!), he races better in the heat!
I can't wait until Cheserek destroys this field and everyone is forced to say "well, he's 30."
I wish more black americans ran distance, because this board has such a white person bias.
