HRE I am finally catching up on reading the site and I need to tell you that your statement dated yourself. Only us old guys talk about the two (2) mile run (which was a common distance for open as well as high school runners - back in the dark ages - our time.

The improvement in the 10,000 is actually a bit of a calculation as it was really an improvement from a six mile time. That would really date me as well.
Next you will be talking about 440's and 880's. We are getting old.
Let's find a rest home and measure out a 440 yard track around it. We can settle there and run quarters each day in our Spot Builts or Roms.
All US services, Army,Navy,Marines,Air Force, have fitness tests that are based on miles instead of meters.
They have used metric maps for as long as I can remember, but still insist on statute measurements for their fitness tests.
