BYU is not in the 4xmile.
And if we start talking about last year times princeton looks better with.
Amirault 4:00 this year
Callahan 4:01 this year
Van Ackeren 4:01 last year
Cabral 4:00 last year

yeah she probably is. but her steaks aren't.
Villanova won't let Princeton get anywhere near the goods.
Princeton > Villanova. Also on a side note Princeton's 2011 XC team is going to be sick with their top runner from two years ago coming back for senior year. Rob Speare and they didnt run VanAckeren last year either who would have been probably their 5th guy. so pretty much being 12th in the nation without your number 1 guy or number 5 guy and then bringing back Cabral and Leung will be an exciting year for an ivy league team to be at least top 5 in the nation.
But yeah based on the rankings provided on these threads
Princeton is ranked
2nd 4xMILE
7th 4x800
4th DMR
Villanova
7th 4xMILE
15th 4x800
8th DMR
they will win either the DMR or the 4xMILE and if callahan doesnt run Soloff will step up and fit in just fine.
ARK/BYU/PSU are Princeton's only competiton Villanova? Really?
Princeton FTW, they have been running great all year long and they are deep with talent at this event
Princeton is going to have to go through FSU:
O'Lionaird - 3:40
Forrester - 3:40
Zivec - 3:44
Smyth / Leeder - 3:46 / 3:44
Princeton's been running well, but as far as I can tell they don't have someone who can contend with Ciaran at the end of the race.
Crazy thing is FSU still has Fout at 3:47 and Harbor at 3:45 on the roster. Would still have Roberts at 3:44 if he had decided to finish up his eligibility this outdoors.
That's a lot of fast guys.
Abner's isn't the best cheeseteak place in town, but its pretty good and about two blocks away from Franklin Field; its where I'm getting my cheeseteak before I watch some great track action friday afternoon
well that is why we run the race. should be fun. i still like princeton to win, but feel no one is favored because one bad leg can mean everything in a 4xmile.
Sometimes this race can be broken open early, but if it is not, you have to have a banger for an anchro, Princeton really does not, they have guys who have run right at 4:00-01 on their best days.
Arkansas is the chalk I would guess.
I would expect Villanova to fare well here , if they somehow got a big leg from MacKenzie(if they even run him), they could be right there.
Never count out the hometown crew. Penn means so much to villanova, any year they have enough talent to have a chance they fight like anything to win. this seems like one of those years.
The best philly cheesesteaks are at the Jersey Shore. They use real cheese instead of that cheez-whiz stuff
remember these are the rankings based on top 4 individual 2011 Indoor/Outdoor times
16:02.49 Arkansas
16:08.75 Princeton
16:12.11 Florida State
16:13.04 Virginia Tech
16:13.52 Indiana
16:14.35 Penn State
16:16.21 Villanova
16:18.13 Duke
16:23.31 Texas
16:26.03 Navy
But also take into fact people who are running the DMR the previous day.
I still dont see Villanova doing that well.
How don't you see Villanova doing that well?
Gibney ran sub 4 indoors and has run 3:40.xx and is rounding into form.
Mildinghall has split 3:59-4:00
MacKenzie has run 3:41.x albeit not in a while, just went 3:47.x on cool night at Princeton
McEntee, just went 3:47.x in same race
Tetrault has run 3:47 before and just went 3:48 in same race.
sub 16:20 usually gets top 2-4 in this race, they certainly add to better than that.
From my Penn Relays Preview(link on front page)
Most of these teams have already been talked about here, but I thought it would help to see this breakdown. Tried to cover every as many potential team members as possible, but I'm sure I'm missing a few (this was done over the weekend)
456-College Men 4-mile Relay Championship 1:00pm
No clear-cut favorite here, but a number of teams have solid lineups.
Arkansas(A) has the best set of individual PRs. Dorian Ulrey, who ran on the team that won here in 2009, missed the 2010 outdoor season, but is showing signs of getting back to his 2009 for, having run 3:42.76 for 1500-meters this past weekend.
Even without their top gun, Andrew Bayer, who is redshirting this outdoor season, Indiana could win this event for the first time since 1954! (Bayer ran a 3:53.3 split for 1600-meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships.)
Here are the leading lineups, with their 2011 bests/PRs (800/3k time listed if no 1500/mile is available)
ARKANSAS(A)
Thomas Cattin-Masson 3:45.56m/3:44.29-’10
Scott Gillespie 4:01.33
Duncan Phillips 3:58.82
Dorian Ulrey 3:42.76m/3:35.23/3:56.70-both ‘09
INDIANA(D)
Andy Weatherford 4:02.80i
De’Sean Turner 4:00.46i
Andrew Poore 3:47.97/4:05.66i-’10
Ben Hubers 4:00.47
DUKE(C)
Domenick DeMatteo 4:04.81
Josh Lund 4:04.96
Ryan McDermott 4:02.06
Cory Nanni 3:59.5 split from last year
(Could challenge the All-U.S. Collegiate Record of 16:15.5, set by Tennessee in 1977. The other contending teams all have at least one international runner in their lineup.)
VILLANOVA(B)
Sam McEntee NT/3:47.67-’10
Mathew Mildenhall 4:05.88i/4:03.32-’08
Carl MacKenzie 3:53.14m//4:00.25-’08
Matthew Gibney 3:58.12i
PRINCETON(E)
Kyle Soloff 4:07.14i/4:06.24i-’10
Donn Cabral 4:07.29i/4:00.64-’10
Trevor Van Ackeren 3:46.32/3:45.29-’10
Mark Amirault 4:00.26i
NORTH CAROLINA STATE(I)
Adam Henken 4:05.48
Andrew Colley 3;46.50
Greg Dame NT/3:47.07-’09
Sandy Roberts NT/4:01.21i-’09

Iona(G)

Matt Bayley (8:14.31i)/3:50.80-’07
Christopher Stogsdill 3:47.39
Mitch Goose (8:10.79i)/3:44.44-’09
Why princeton will win...
VanAckeren will run 4:00
Split 4:01 last year at Penn Relays. Qualified for nationals in the 1500m last year purely for race reasons 1500m PR was only 3:45. So pretty much he knows how to compete.
Cabral will run 4:01
Has run a 8:35 steeple. Ran 13:46 5K this year. and a 4:03 mile indoor this year. So pretty much he will run 4:01 on his strength alone.
Amirault will run 3:59
Has run 2 4:00 indoor miles this year and has split 4:02ish many times in relays. Coming off a 4:03 outdoor mile last week. Mix that with his 13:45 5K strength. He is due to break 4 min.
Callahan/Soloff will run sub 4:05.
A healthy Callahan would easily run a 4:00 based on his indoor season on 1:48 800, 4:01 Mile, 2:22 1000m. However due to his injury I see him running 4:05ish. If Callahan doesnt run Soloff can run a 4:05 based on his 4:06 indoor and he split 4:05 last year at Penn Relays.
Also all 5 of these runners have alot of Penn Relays experience and keep on coming in 5th/6th place and will eventually all run a solid race to compete with the ARKs and INDs of the racing world.
All im saying is Princeton is the dark horse in this race becuase they dont have the flashy Batty/Andrews/Wheating/Phillips type they are easily over looked.
I have a friend who runs for Princeton and he didn't sound too optimistic when I asked him about the 4xMile... Apparently they've got one guy out for sure with injury and one guy is questionable.
I am so tired of reading the crap that comes out of Princeton's mouth.
Are you the same guy that said you expected sub 1603 -earlier in the year?
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=3925596&page=1#3930631Or are you related to Jere Longman who should be embarrassed for writing this article?
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/29/sports/29track.html?partner=rss&emc=rssyeah i heard vanackeren and callahan are both hurt. they may not even run the DMR now to save Dinkins for the 4x4. They have the 10th fastest 4x400 seed time. so i guess princeton is trying to qualify for the COA 4x400 finals. so u might as well keep dinkins and hollimon fresh. it would be cool to see an ivy league team in the 4x400 finals.
Well that DMR finish was interesting . . . . Gibney (Nova) over Ulrey (Arkansas) and Batty (BYU) in a major kickers race. Gibney was ~2:04-1:58.
