RIP Sally from all the like-minded runners in England.
RIP Sally from all the like-minded runners in England.
Google street view of intersection:
theres a railroad crossing there too
intersection is at N White and Parker Rd and Maricopa Casa Grande Highway
it's a stop sign, and it looks like the railroad tracks are on the other side of the intersection if she was heading southbound.
This is a tragedy. My condolences to Sally's family and friends. She will certainly be missed.
Sally was a good runner, a great friend and an amazing person. She brought so much energy and passion to every race. The road circuit will not be the same with out her. This is a very, very sad loss for the running community and everyone close to her. Much love to her always, and to her family from all of us in Minnesota.
I ran with Sally when she was just a freshman in high school and man could she fly... I will definitely miss her athleticism!!

just effin' stop at stop signs.
Just a reminder to everybody, stop at stop signs and wear your seat belts when driving. It may save a life, your own. That's the message we should all take to heart.
why, man, why?
Blogpost about Sally who we met when she ran her marathon debut in 2008 at P.F. Chang's RnR Arizona.
I think I'll wear pigtails during my next race in memory. If I had pink compression socks, I'd wear them too. R.I.P.
This is extremely heart breaking to everyone who knew her and who she inspired. She was a very special person. I feel blessed to have roomed with and lived with her for a short time and seen the love and dedication she had for running, her family, and her boys. We will deeply miss you Sally and will continue to run our heart out for you!
As a 27 year old female who graduated in 2002, I am still reeling from losing fellow high school competitor Julie Allen in January. I am in shock regarding Sally's passing. Unbelievable. I have a fond memory of racing with her at Mt. Sac our senior year in the 3,000. She came from behind (practically last place) to finish second to Laura Ziegle. She was an amazing talent. My heart goes out to her family and friends...
RIP Sally
Chandler Athletic Director Dave Shapiro said that his March 26 Chandler Rotary Track and Field Invitational will dedicate the girls mile run to former Tempe Marcos de Niza and Phoenix Mountain Pointe runner Sally Meyerhoff, who was struck by a truck while ridinig her bike in Maricopa on Tuesday and was killed.
Meyerhoff, 27, a professional runner who captured seven state track and field championships in the early 2000s, was starting to make her mark in the marathon world. She won P.F. Chang's Arizona marathon in January, and was training for an Ironman competition. She was ranked among the top 10 women marathon runners in the country.
The Mile Run will start around 5:30 on March 26 at Chandler High's Austin Field. Some of the top distance runnersi n the Southwest are expected to compete. Shapiro said he has 90 schools, 20 from outside Arizona, who will be represented at the state's biggest invitational. He said a flower bouquet will be presented to the winner.
"I remember she'd finish a race, win it, look at her watch, jump up and down, then run a two- or three-mile cooldown," Shapiro said. "It's a huge loss not only for Arizona but for the national scene."

My bike does not have a seat belt...
I agree on the stopping at stop signs. A quick track stop is all that is needed.
It looks like (from my evaluation of the google earth streetview of the intersection) that Sally tragically misjudged the approach speed of the oncoming vehicle that struck her. It's an intersection with long straight approach roads, vehicles are likely to be traveling faster than usual.
What a tragic loss! :-(
I got to know her as a friend through Facebook, never in person, but even through the Internet she exuded a real passion for what she was doing, and a real love of life. And she absolutely loved her dogs! A real loss to her family. I know she was very close to her mom and to her sister.
