Not sure about Daniels or Lydiard for the training leading up to raqce day but here are two potential race day motivation methods:
Insta-PETA-Protest-Method:
1) Make sure to place timing tag immediately next to rabies tag
2) Place Silas on the starting line
3) Stand behind Silas with the biggest spray bottle of water that you can locate (use a Super Soaker if you have to do so)
4) Spray. Cat sprints. Cat sits. Repeat
Cat Friendly Method
1) Fly to Seattle.
2) Visit Pike Place Fish Market
3) Roll around in a pile of salmon
4) purchase one large salmon
5) stop by the original Starbucks location for a skinny, cinammon, dulce, half-caf, no whip, light foam, extra hot latte (you should get quick service due to your stench so feel free to add to the number of commands)
6) go to the airport
7) place salmon in pants and then walk through bodyscanner with a delightful grin on your face
8) explain reason for salmon [cat motivator] to TSA before or after full cavity search
9) fly home (kick back; you'll find that you will probably have open seats next to you)
10) Place timing tag next to rabies tag on Silas
11) Rub purchased salmon on you and put some bits on 1/4 inch spikes before screwing in your spikes (yes you will have trouble with footing on the roads but you may get some Omega 3's by osmosis during the run!)
12) Place Silas behind you at the line
13) when the gun goes off, get after it!
