A lot of idiot responses on this thread. You just happen to be the first. Well done.

Thank you for telling me that I made an idiotic response. If I seen this guy choking my dog, I'd choke his son.
As George Carlin said, think about how stupid the average person is, then realize that one half of the population is stupider than that person.
The guy in the article that killed the dog had enough of a concern that he put his son behind him before they made contact with the dog. That strikes me as someone with a desire to avoid trouble, not create it.
Unfortunately, this dog's owner was one of those idiots who thinks their animal can do no wrong.

Now *that* was an idiotic response.
Did you read the article? The guy had puncture wounds on his face. I doubt he attacked the dog and started choking it and then the dog bit his face. Unless he likes to get right in the face of a dog he's choking which I must admit is not a bad sensation.

Big deal. I went hunting once. Shot a deer in the leg. Had to kill it with a shovel. Took about an hour.
I am not a hunter, but might I suggest bringing more than one bullet next time. It might make things easier for you and your prey.
As a recovering milk-bone addicted dog, I'm just happy I never attacked this jogger.

Do you throw rocks at people who work at KFC and protest naked outside of stores with leather?
No. I like dogs. I don't like cows. Big difference.
If anyone cuts the head off of a chicken you'll cut of his head?

I recently got rushed by a 50-60lb dog that had obviously bad intentions. I punched it twice in the side of its head. He got confused and backed off, and ran back to his screaming owner. (The owner was screaming at ME, for "exciting" her dog).
She was a bearer of bad news.

I've been attacked by numerous large and aggressive dogs where I live (rural community, lots of white trash) and I have even had to start carrying an extendable police baton with me. I love dogs, and hate seeing them mistreated, but when a large pit bull mix or something similar is chasing me and snapping at me, I have no guilt about whipping out the baton and beating the crap out of it. I would never hit a small or unaggresive dog, but if I get even one bite I am at risk for rabies, and that just isn't worth it to me.
Is that baton effective against pit bulls?
I'm a dog lover (I own one) and I keep it on a leash 100% of the time when it's not in my house. I wish I could say the same for all owners.
Once, a dog tried to bite me while I was out running - it just ran out of its yard and lunged at me. Luckily I dodged the bite, which would have been nasty as it was a fairly large dog - and I managed to get a really hard kick to the dog's ribs, which made it yelp and run away. The owner came out and started yelling at me and a heated exchange ensued. I basically told him to f*** off, keep his dog under control and to be thankful that I wasnt going to call the police. Hopefully I killed the f***ing thing with the kick. What if I had been a young child and the dog had attacked? The consequences could have been terrible.
So, much as I love my dog, I recognize that you can never TOTALLY trust an animal 100% and that they must be kept under control at all times. If my dog attacked someone, I'd have him destroyed, even though it would break my heart

As a dog, I'm surprised to find someone posting with less education than I have.

getting aggressive will make they worse
I used to think that, but it didn't work. Recently I ran past a house that has 3-4 dogs running loose. One of them was a rottweiler. It ran down the driveway as I ran past, clear on the other side of the road. When I saw that it was coming after me, I stopped because most of the time if you keep running, dogs will chase you. I stopped, put my hands up in front of me and said something like, "nice doggie, it's okay" in a gentle voice. Well then the dog lunged at me and not in a playful way. Luckily I sprinted for my life in the opposite direction and he didn't bite me, but he sure came close.
I avoided that route for a while until I read a letsrun thread about dogs chasing runners and got some ideas. The next time I ran past that house, the rottweiler wasn't there. I bet someone complained and hopefully they got rid of the dog. There were still the other dogs though. When they came at me, I used a different approach, which I continue to use. No more "nice doggie." Instead I use the tactic I learned on letsrun and run at the dogs, screaming and yelling like a crazy person. So far, this works every time and scares the dogs off.

No. However, if I see someone cut a dogs head off for no reason... I might feel the need to beat the living shit out of said person.

This guy seems like one tough cookie. (And this is coming from a dog)

You're the one that needs to have the living shit beat out of you.
Would love to have seen you attacked by this menacing dog.

You sound very tough. You see what the guy did to the big doggie?? I don't think he "got lucky" with his choke hold. If this guy saw you choke his son after your dog attacked him, he'd most likely kill you ALONG with your dog, and you'd both be dead. And the world would be better off.
How you like them doggie biscuits?
