She only got 10th with a 14:44.76?
14:44.76 for Huddle would appear to be the all time fastest 10th place in a women's 5k and Meselech Melkamu's 14:44.26 in the same race an equal fastest 9th place.
http://www.alltime-athletics.com/w_5000ok.htmLess than 1% of the adult population wear dental braces. That is correct, Mr. "ortho". But do the 7 members of the santa monica track club currently wear braces? No. None of them do. Which helps with your stupid statistic (1%).
Let's rearrange what you said. Let's phrase it, "___% of the population HAVE worn braces as an adult"
The number would be much, much higher than 1%.
Sorry, but as a math major, I just can't stand it when people use stupid statistics. You learn this, almost literal, crap as a freshman math major. And it makes common sense! Along with me hating people who cite stupid statistics, what I detest even more is the interpretation of these stupid statistics by "the masses"
Don't use statistics. For that matter, don't even use data in your hypothesis. You're too stupid.
Anyone have only Huddle,s splits not leader splits for the 14:44.76? 1000's or better 400's??
math major, very impressive. the statistic is simply, maybe too simply but still, stating that at any current time it is extremely rare for an adult to wear dental braces. a vast majority of kids in america have access to dental care before adulthood. so why is it that we see some of our record breakers getting braces in their 20's and 30's? i was not a math major so putting 2 and 2 together may be difficult for me. but let me try. huge drops in performances, to the point of american records, after years of structured training plus dental braces? looks to equal fishy behavior.

Because they get paid to look good.
Buddy of mine from college is a weather girl on TV. He's not gay, but spends a huge amount of time and money keeping "pretty"-- working out 3-4 hours a day, getting the right haircut, his nails trimmed, eyebrows plucked, whatever. He makes very good money, but a lot of it depends on his looks being flawless.
Athletes-- esp. female athletes-- are more marketable if they are also flawless. The decision whether or not to have braces is not black and white-- there is a lot of gray where your teeth may be "good enough" for most things but not flawless.
If Ms. Huddle picks up an extra endorsement or two because her teeth are now flawless, more power to her. She's already proven it on the track where it matters...
She's being sponsored by the Dental Reconstruction Association of America.
WTF?!?!?!
Molly hasnt had braces since at least 2005 if she has ever had them.
I am so happy for Molly, the nicest person in female distance running, and now the AR as well! What a hard worker and consistent racer over the years.
Gawd you are an idiot. Maybe one of the silliest post on letsrun and oh the competition! So they need teeth braces but not leg braces because of PEDs? Congrads to Molly on a great run. She clearly had the right field to pull her along to do something great!

Sad. An American record and she's not even in contention in the race. Is this really progress? The American record is 33 seconds behind the world record.
On the men's side, Solinsky runs 12:55, only 18 seconds off the world record. And he runs 26:59, only 37 seconds off the world record. A lot more respectable, imo.
Our female distance runners are not competitive. Except for Flanagan's bronze, we rarely even get a runner in the finals in the 5k or 10k. It just goes to show how the African women are now catching up to the African men, both in quality and numbers. Huddle's 10 place was without the 2 top women, Dibaba and Defar, in the race. She would have been 12th!
"Must be using PED's"
The ultimate Letsrun compliment to a runner.
Molly Huddle, AR? Who in the hell is Molly Huddle?

If you don't know, you're on the wrong web page.
By the way, what ever happened to the former record holder? Shalane?
What is she up to?

@1: no, a record certainly isn't progress. great question.
@2: how many times had solinsky or any other american broken 13min before last year? or 27min? Oh yeah....you forgot.
you are a complete moron

Molly is subject to drug testing 365 days a year. All the Diamond League meetings had drug testing, testing the top finishers and random placers as well. Given her ranking, Molly has to keep USADA informed on her whereabouts everyday of the year, and has to make herself available for one hour a day, every day between 6am and 11pm, so that testers can find her if her name is called. She would have last submitted her daily schedule by July 1 (beginning of the third quarter) and can update USADA on changes to that schedule with a minimum of 24 hours notice.
thanks for pointing that out. i was thinking about doing the same for the idiots.
