Does anyone know if Chris will get a good shot at a 10k later this year? Sure wish he had run it at Stanford, because he could've dipped under 28:00 and set the school record that fabled night.

sagarin, I don't think that Derrick was ready for the sub 28 at Payton Jordan. He was coming back from injury and now he is pretty strong and could do it. Any chance that the 5 or 10 will be fast at NCAA this year?

Martin Smith was fired after winning the PAC 10 for 1 reason. THEY DID NOT WIN WITH DISTANCE RUNNERS. Now the hypocritical University of Nike is called a complete team.
Or it may have been the fact that the cross country team was not even qualifying for NCAA's let alone winning. Ohh and there was some stuff about verbal abuse and throwing objects. But I'm sure it was only about what you said because they've never had any sprinters, jumpers or throwers before on any level.
Actually I think Oregon is interested in winning multiple NCAA championships as a priority over simply winning an outdoor conference championship and calling it a year.

You're sounding like the German camp right before German began epic failure. Maybe Standford and Derrick should concentrate on its peers and not on comparing with G. Rupp, the greatest of modern college legends.
That's funny! Last I recall collegiate athlete Chelanga set the CR 10k and in the process dismantled Rupp (a pro-athlete). What's wrong, Rupp can't beat any good athletes his age and aren't even Pro?
fyi, chelanga is a couple years older than rupp. No response needed for the rest of that dribble.
Your point doesn't stand the 800m is a distance race
10k
Stanford 24 points
UO 9 points
5k
Stanford 22 points
UO 7 points
Steeple
Stanford 8 points
UO 5 points
1500m
Stanford 5
UO 23
800
UO 22
Stanford 0
UO- 66
Stanford-59
UO beats Stanford in distance, as a full track team, and in cross country at the national meet.

This was a TRACK MEET. NOT a distance carnival. Distance, Mid D, Sprints, Throws, Jumps and multis. Oregon has the better track team... not the better distance squad. Not sure why there is even a discussion about this.
Which is why Oregon finished second and Stanford finished, what, 8th at XC nationals? I realize Stanford was beating them regularly up to that point though. The point is, Oregon still has a great distance squad even though most of their best guys are mid d focused. (Also note, Oregon had two other guys in the 5k who could have been a factor but pulled out because the team no longer needed the points (Centro and Mcnamara)
please stop making threads.
Great point. OP loses argument.
