But I'm guessing we will anyway.

Have you ever actually Aqua Jogged for an hour or more? It feels like you just did 100 pushups/squats.
Asthma? I thought it was a bad thyroid issue...

nice, got a good laugh from that one.
wow, that was an insane race from webb in paris. hope he gets back to that.
1 - i could see how aqua jogging could put some muscle on you. I mean, look at swimmers. Water is significantly heavier than air. It's effectively like wearing a weighted-suit. Kinda like running while holding weights.
2 - Didn't El G say that Webb would be the next mile record holder? That's gotta count for something.

Yes, I have aqua jogged for well over an hour at absolutely maximal intensity and it feels nothing like doing 100 pushups/squats.

I understand what you're saying, however, I think it would be hard to find evidence for Webb not being "blessed with highly developed physiology." Whatever that means.
He ran 4:06 when he was a sophomore. That's somewhat blessed.
BUT, you're point about Webb's injuries is definitely taken as for why Webb might not run as well as Lagat at 30+.
Wasn't implying and don't disagree that Webb is a remarkable athlete (I've always believed that), but still having that ability at age 35+ is a hellava lot different than 27 and would indicate that the athlete has physiological capabilities vastly superior to the average WC competitor.

Wait now if you were working that hard, then there's no way you lasted for well over an hour. But still either way, it doesnt quite feel like 100 pushups or squats in my experience. Just very tired legs.
Webb did look heavy when he was running like crap, but was he? What did he weigh when he ran 3:46, what did he weigh in 2008, and how does that compare to his weight today? I wish we had the facts. [quote]qwertyuiop[] wrote:
Webb is out with stress fracture in heel. He is the most injured he ever has been. Salazar is constantly full of himself.

Thanks to you and everybody who posted those great Webb race videos. Such great races. Hopefully for his sake, finally moving away from home and his questionable lifestyle in Virginia mark a move towards a mature athlete. Such great potential there...
This was sarcasm, right?
Since he ran all of those great races while living that questionable lifestyle in Virginia.

Neither of which will add a significant amount of muscle mass. I spend several months two years ago in the pool aqua-jogging for sessions between 45min and 2 hrs. Yes, you get out of the pool after 60minutes and you can't lift your leg to put on a shoe. But you don't gain a lot of muscle mass in the pool.
Oh I was never denying this fact, but the person I originally replied to said Aqua Jogging puts very "minimal stress" on your muscles. Which anyone who's ever actually done it, knows better.
I saw him around portland not too long ago. He was lookin' thin, boy!

when he ran 3:46: 90 pounds
2008: 260 pounds
2010: 150 pounds
i'm trying to find the source again..
I don't know about all this talk about weight but more than likely for Webb its all about this year or next year if he's starting back real slow and being cautious. I would say the same for Ritz but he probably has a good shot of hitting his lifetime peak in the marathon in 2012. Webb will be a little old by then. You just don't run at that level that long. For most 26-27 is going to be as good as it gets.
Geb is an extreme example of longevity.
Lagat started off a bit behind his teenage years and early 20's.
I am curious to know what the specific modifications in diet were.

They're the same age.

That some serious fluctuation.
Heavy weight training doesn't always equal increased muscle mass. He would be served better by a change in weight training, not complete elimination.
Resistance training (weight training, plyos, etc) has been shown to improve middle distance times and running economy. Studies have shown this, runners have shown this from Coe to Guerrouj to Geb, yet runners at large still have their heads in the sand.
