Yes you do. you have insurance, correct? If you come down with some really serious disease or are in a tragic accident, it is at least possible that your lifetime costs could end up in the millions of $'s, correct? Have you paid millions of $'s to your health insurance company? No, you haven't. But you would still expect "them" to pay for it, correct? Of course you would. Now who is "they" ? Is is it some CEO at an insurance company? No, the people paying would be the despised (in your formulation) "OTHERS" that pay into your same health insurance company. Some of these people have paid less into that insurance pool than you, some more. But either way, there $ pitches into help you if something happens to you, even if it was something stupid you did to yourself.
So do want others to pay for you, you just don't know it. And the same thing would happen with a more universal system. Well of course it is ALREADY happening via emergency rooms. But it could happen more cheaply with more universal coverage.
So you already expect others to pay for you if something catastrophic happens to you (because you have a job where the employer kicks in a bunch of $ for your insurance), and we ALL already kick in $ to pay for poor uninsured schlubs in the ER's accross the country. So I really don't know why you are bitching about kicking in LESS $ (in the long haul) to help those same poor schlubs get some insurance and timely care, especially since you don't mind others potentially paying most of your health care costs if something unfortunate happens to you.
