You sir, are an idiot.
Well, done to both Lagat and Rupp. It's going to be a fun spring and summer for professional American running.

Rupp is superior to Ritzenhein for those of you not in the know.
The AR 5000m will be the following when all said and done -
Galen Rupp, 12:54
Matt Tegenkamp, 12:56
Dathan Ritzenhein, 12:58
It'll be interesting to see how Ritz's 12:56 is retroactively invalidated.

Only on this board would a guy run 4 seconds faster than his previous AR and still get crap for it. I'm no Rupp fanboy, but he had a good meet last week, a strong performance today where he pushed the pace, and still gets slagged off on here.
I'm glad somebody said that.
But of course, the people giving him crap are all much stronger runners than Rupp, right? So they're allowed to gripe.

Rupp didn't look "superior to Ritzenhein" in the 2008 Olympic 10,000m. But why try to establish an arbitrary hierarchy? Let's watch the races.

What about Lagat you douche?
Lagat is on the running mercenaries list.

Rupp in the Olympics 10k > Ritzenhein not in the Olympics 10k...
So, I'm not sure what angle you are trying to take here.
Ritz 12:58????
Uhh didnt he already run 12:56???
you are an idiot
Doesn't mean that he's less American. I mean shit he has gained citizenship hasn't he? You know what, why don't guys just say white boy record instead of American record because lets face it, that's what it is all about to you guys isn't it? Still hung up on race. If Lagat was Australian, New Zealand or someone other than an African than you guys would be all over his jays and Rupp, Teg, Solinsky, Webb and Ritz would be no more than footnotes. And that's the truth...Bash away.

If Willis ran a 13:11 Americans would be going crazy. In running its not about nationality, its about race.

Hence all the more reason to call it white boy record instead of American Record. So I say to rupp congratulations for setting the new white boy record of 13:14 for 5k indoors.
Everyone knew Lagat could run 13:11 closing in 27. Impressive, yes. Huge surprise to get pumped up about? Hell no. When you're a double world champ and 3:26/12:58? guy, it's expected. Why should anyone go crazy over Lagat's race? How is that racist? If Rupp were to come back to college and run 13:24 to win the Stanford Invite or something, would everyone go crazy over him because he's white? No, they'd say nice job, but boring.

What are you talking about? They did not race each other in the 2008 Olympic 10,000m.

You realize Ritz wasn't trying to make the olympic 10k that year, right? He'd been there and done that before.

You mean when Rupp beat Abdi and laid down an American Olympic final 10k record, and Ritz was in the marathon... Ok...

Lagat is special case, "B sample", ran under a false Kenyan nationality when he was already American and should be retroactively stripped of those medals, etc. But, all that aside, Americans will always have an "American born" preference, even over Brits, Aussies, etc. You can look for threads complaining about Warhurt importing Sully, Brannen, Willis, etc. By the way, they were not "All-American", despite having placed high enough to earn the certificate, and being "white." What you are complaining about is merely a healthy level of internal self-preference.
Agreed. Lagat decided to represent the US for no reason other than out of fear of the selection process in Kenya. Add in lying to his home nation leading up to Athens, it should be obvious that the guy isn't all roses. For the record, I don't like athletes from anywhere changing their allegiance. I don't like Farah as a Brit. Don't like that Stephen Cherono and all the other Qatari athletes that were born in Kenya. I don't like all the Bahraini athletes from Morocco, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Hell, I don't really even like Cragg running as an Irish even though he was born with a dual citizenship. I believe that you should represent your nation, not your place of residence.
'I don't like Farah as a Brit'
He has never run for any other country, so is there is no comparison with athletes switching alegiance. His parents moved here when he was 10 so he hardly had any say in the matter
Has anyone on this thread ATLEAST run under a 4:10 mile or a 14:20 5K? Or are all the shit talkers just average runners who have nothing else to do but talk shit.
