In three years of high school track and x-country I'm aware of only one person(male or female) other than myself who went on to run in college. And that person ran only one year in college.
Do I win?

My team won an XC state title my junior year and I can barely remember which seven runners we had at that point. From that group:
#1 Quit after a couple weeks at a D3 school, won a national title in rowing

I don't really know b/c I wasn't on the cc team, but I think about 2 or 3 might have run some d3.
i went from other sports to d1 running. 4 years, did well.
The times mentioned were high school times. You can check them out on the top high school milers list - and even figure out which team it was. We were in the 70's viewed as one of the better teams of the era. Our number #1 guy ran a 4:10 mile as a soph - made us all believe.
Four of the top five were very serious students - top 1% types - we all went on to professional careers which was not surprising given the nature of the town (although my brother and I were poor, the town was not and sent many on to the Ivy League, etc.).
In retrospect, we were all reasonably talented runners - but for the most part, we were good athletes that could have played other varsity sports - the golden age, so to speak, simply caused us to be interested in running.
#1 Division 1 XC + Track
#2 Division 1 XC + Track
#3 Division 1 XC + Track (quit after a year)
#4 nope
#5 Division 2 Track
#6 nope
#7 nope
#1-Yes John Trautmann Olympian-Georgtown
#2-D1 Iona
#3-Quit after a week
#4-No
#5-Ran D3 for one season X-C
#6-NAIA
#7-D1 then transferred to a great D3 (was only a Fr. this year and became a great HS runner thereafter).
I'll count 4 of 7 for 58%
Senior year:
#1 D1
#2 no
#3 D1
#4 D1
#5 D1
#6 no
#7 D3
#2 wasn't interested, #6 went on to pursue academics at Notre Dame.
My HS CC coach coached from 1975-2003, then turned the job over to his son. He says, since 1975, I am the only male or female to run 4 years in college (D3). Another guy ran a couple years of D3 and was kicked off the team for behavior. 2 guys ran one year of very low level D1 and quit.

as if that can't be done along with running.

1- D3
2- D1
3- Chose not to run
4- D3
5- D1
6- D3
7- Possibly poor D1 school (Not graduated yet)
All of the D3 schools would beat the D1 schools.
So either 5 or 6 of 7 and one who could have run but decided not to. Each had run either sub 9:45 or sub 4:30 by senior year except #7.
1 - D3
2 - Army biathlon team
3 - Nope
4 - D3 long jumper
5 - D3
