read the WADA rules and documents before making stupid replies on here folks...
just because something improves performance does not mean it needs to be banned. (otherwise we would need to ban training). 2 of 3 criteria below need to be satisfied for something (technique/substances etc) to be officially banned:
1) improve performance
2) adverse to both acute and chronic health
3) against the spirt of sport (ethics)
#3- is is tricky, and WADA has a large ethical panel that discusses the ethics of each item at length (e.g. altitude tents were discused for a long time over the last few years).
I agree and have always pointed out exactly what you just did. And yes, this is why altitude tents were almost banned. They certainly fail #1, they seem to somewhat fail #3, and #2 is a gray area. There do not appear to be any conclusive studies on adverse health effects yet for altitude tents, but I would think that they could clearly cause problems if abused (dialing up the altitude too high for too long).
If they do get banned someday, there will be big *'s next to a lot of records (Paula's 2:15, Ritz's 12:56, and so on)

Yes. And as another poster pointed out, Viren in the 70's did absolutely nothing illegal. So anyone who questions his legitimacy should question Teg's .... ? And athletes in the 80's and 90's who used blood infusions? I guess they are sinners.
Lots of gray areas. Life is not as black and white as many on here want to believe.
