Jenny is an amazing athlete and young woman. I've been a fan of hers since high school.
I watched the race and before she actually folded I told my daughter she wasn't going to win the race. I saw it in her eyes and face.
1. Susan was primed to beat her Monday, and that's scary for an athlete who is expected to never lose in a collegiate race.
2. Jenny has been on for so long it's humanly impossible to be up all the time, and it okay not to be.
3. She put too much emphasis on this race for herself.
4. For the first time in a while in a collegiate race she felt threaten, and with the combined pressure of the above it became too much for her and she caved. She is human and she can't expect to be more.
Jenny will get over this and become a better competitor for it, but more importantly I pray she becomes a better and more humble person for it. God speed Jenny on your pro career.
Jenny keep faith and be humble.
YES! This so eloquently and perfectly explained what I too believe happened. Post of the Week! I too am a huge Jenny fan.
I do believe she was threatented by Susan K. who is no doubt a fantastic runner. But I don't think she really had anything to worry about. If Jenny had just continued on then Susan would have gotten her side stitch and fell back like she did and Jenny would have won. But Jenny felt threatened and she put so much pressure on herself and made this race so overly important. She basically admitted that she came back to get the one title that had eluded her, that was in her view the most coveted one. And yes, she pretty much claimed it before she raced. And I do think Jenny took all the glory to heart and believed this title was her due and she was far superior to all other runners in the race, and how dare anyone challenge her. I do think Jenny learned a lot in this race, about herself, her humanity, and yes the importance of humility. Sorry so long
