didnt simon bairu and tim nelson both run 27:55 their senior year?
bairu did it two years ago and i believe nelson broke 28min for the first time this year
isn't it cool that 4 schools account for 11 of 16 times under 28?
UTEP-4, WSU-3, BYU-2, Oregon-2
oh, and scotty bauhs... all alone in the smaller school cat. all the other guys were at big name colleges ( i guess prov. is smaller but still d1)
Give virgin rupp-like advantages. Scary to think.

You forgot to put a * on Salazar.
I don't think he forget. The "Czar" works in mysterious ways. How do you think he got Rupp his eligibility back Czar you, you're good you. How do you hack into that posters compuer. I'm onto you.
Hey -- anybody who's read all of these mind-boggling recitations of times want to collate it and put together the definitive list of collegiates who broke 28 (pre-graduation, or however collegiate status is iterated?) It would be much appreciated.
27:55 during my red shirt year in April of 83 (Pat Porter was 2nd), then in the summer of 83 right before WC and before my last year of college I ran 27:59 (Salazar 2nd) I think Schools list top times without much consistency...some go into the summer after the kid graduates, others stop at graduation.
on a side note: Man, one year Shahanga is running sub 28 for UTEP then he is running for Ranger JUCO....My teammate finished 3rd at JUCO indoors in the 3 mile behind Shahanga and Samson Obwacha, I believe both ran at the Olympics in 1984 later that year, Shahanga in the Marathon(I Believe 15th) and Obwacha in the steeple....
Teg doesn't run no 10K!
i think you're referring to the time he ran a solo 13:30 5k in the pouring rain just before the race between salazar, rono and adrien royal...(on the cover of may-'82 TFN)...i think salazar wins and mentions how hill's gutsy performance inspired him to run fast...

Pre did it...
once again the pre fans wont let it go. Pre only ran the 10 twice and both of them were for the oregon track club.

Salazar didn't win. Henry, who was visibly overweight and had just started back training a few weeks earlier, outkicked Salazar in just under 27:30. I'm pretty sure that Henry still regards that as his all-time favorite performance, especially since he figured that he was invited by Salazar only to pump up the interest in Salazar's attempt at an American record. Although I saw a videotape of that race about twenty years ago, I haven't found it on youtube. I'd love to see it again. In fact, I'd love to see any of Henry's great performances. There has never been another runner quite like him.
