Derrick's 15th at worlds, right behind Fernandez, is the performance that has impressed me the most about him this year.
Worlds > usa outdoors > ncaa outdoors > an indoor meet
World juniors is great, but the performers go all over from there, some much better some much worse, some dissappear and a lot we just don't know. What's nice about racing NCAA and USA's is you are racing established people. You know what it means when you race teg, lagat or rupp. No name with a questionable birth certificate, not so much. Ritz got 3rd there, but how many NCAA titles did he win? Teg was 5th, how many titles did he get?
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's not worth anything. The racing experience is HUGE there, the places, not so much.
For example 3rd place at worlds just ran 13:28 in Hengelo, 1 second better then Derrick.
