Spanish is not the language of this HWE. First it's English, then German, then French, then Russian, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, and then Spanish. Who would have thunk it? /Ger-man/ or /Hair-Mon/, it's all good to me.

...ouch-again!!!
Why the must the truth always hurt so much?
...and why can't we all be 'winners' and feel warm & fuzzy about ourselves? (Yup, drippin' with sarcasm! :P)

So you want to prove this kid has no potential by saying he will get destroyed by a guy who finished 20th in the same championship? While he was older I might add.
By what a few months at most? Quality varies year to year, this year was weak, Kenya's number 1-4 and number 6 top Juniors were out, etc.

Derrick is a great runner, and a good guy it seems, but he isn't as good as Fernandez. Remember, he is a pure 5k/10k guy while German is a 15/5k guy. And German is better than Derrick over 8k. While Derrick may run under 13:30 this year, I wouldn't be surprised, he'll probably never run 3:55i in his life, while German could best everything Derrick does in every distance. However, if Derrick can train at a more consistent level than German, I can see Derrick having the better career. He seems to be a Galen Rupp type talent.
Derrick a Rupp type talent? If he takes down Rupp's 3000m, 5000m, and 10000m American Junior Records, or at least posts times approaching them in that entire range, maybe.
Frankly, German hasn't shown he is a Rupp like talent yet, much less better.
Congratulations, you've now entered the "no one should ever listen to what this asshat has to say" territory.

Why do so many people say German with a G rather tham Herman with an H.
Well, that would be because German calls himself German with a G, as do all his friends, including his Mexican friends. In all likelihood, only his family uses the Spanish pronunciation. As well as, I suppose, non-English speakers.

Right. But, keep on believing the hype that German will "take Rupp downtown in the 5k" this year, 12:52 in 3 years, etc. And where is his World Jr. Cross medal again? Oh wait, he's "injured," but not so injured he can't run, just injured enough that he has an excuse and the hype can roll on.
There are probably pretty close in XC, but on the track, Derrick's lack of speed will alway be a libility in championship type races. From what I remember, Derrick can barely break 2 minutes in the 800; on track this means he always going to be forced to do the work to keep the pace honest. - Very simular to Ritz.
i thought that Ritz ran a low 1:5X in high school. is that not correct?

For the last time moron, in the Flocast video he states that people call him /Djer-man/ because they have trouble pronouncing his name. That does not mean he calls himself /Djer-man/. I am his freind and I pronounce it correctly.

You'd be hard-pressed to find people who can't manage the Spanish pronunciation, unless you visit redneckville, USA. At Footlocker we asked him which pronunciation was correct, he didn't give a definite answer. We obviously found out later that the Spanish pronunciation is "correct" but if he doesn't care to the point that he won't give a definite answer when people ask which they should use, why would you care? I know for a fact that two of his teammates pronounce it with the hard "G" sound, and I only asked two, so that's 2/2=100% as far as I'm concerned.

Let it go, just let it go.
Haha. Yeah, "Keep believing the hype".
German's first indoor race of his entire life was more impressive than anything Rupp had run indoors until THIS indoor season. Don't forget that Rupp is almost 23 now - he's not that young anymore. Did you see German's 3:55.0 video? He looks like he's running a 5K (form-wise), not hammering THE FASTEST INDOOR MILE EVER RUN BY A COLLEGIAN.
That Arkansas guy just ran 13:28 at Stanford.... You really think German can't run sub 13:20 in one of those races? Come on, man. Pull your head out. And 28:15? It'd be a walk in the park.
What I liked about the Fernandez interview is that he said he stays away from the internet and reading about himself. I think Derrick is a cocky SOB. He's not at the level of AJ Acosta when it comes to talking about himself, but he's ready to interject his "expertise" every chance he gets. He attempts to be this wise, intellectual type when in reality he's just a cocky 18yo kid. Great runner, but lacks class.
You people make me sick, let them go. You are right, they are EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD KIDS!!!! Fernandez has done more this year than Rupp did his freshmen year, you can't knock that. And Chris Derrick is incredible as well. The reason this thread started is because German was the person who was going to "beat" the Africans, and Chris Derrick nearly beat him. I don't care if he was injured! When John Landy raced Bannister in the perfect mile, he had stitches on his foot. He didn't tell anyone, press of public. That's a real man. Not one who takes pictures in a boot to post on Letsrun.com to avoid harsh criticisms. He is a great American runner. No more speculation until he proves otherwise...
You guys all suck ass at running compared to him, so back the f*** off~!
Both Fernandez and Derrick are running incredibly.
And they are both fine young men.
It is nice they are willing to share so much in their interviews.
Would being a three time all american before his first outdoor track race in college be an acceptable reason for an 18 year old to be cocky?
ritz is a punk.....no speed, no wheels......just an 8:11 2miler.
Speaking of interviews, are there any of Derrick after World XC? I'd rather have heard him than Gregson. He should have an exciting outdoor season. He's pretty much destined to be the new American Junior Record holder in 5k. I wonder if he'll try a 10k.

Typical Letsrunner who thinks he is the center of the universe.
