That may be well be the most impressive Freshman debut in collegiate mile history.

wow. let's see if he can get that 3k qualifier as well.
When is the 3k?
Does anyone have 2nd heat results?
In addition to only being 18, the key is that he isn't a miler. True xc/distance guys (which he is) who can go way under 4 are very rare. Pre is, I believe, the only 10000m AR holder with a sub-4 credential.
not that it needs to be said again, but wow! that's impressive. that much faster since outdoor?! 5sec+ pr, right?

It's the most impressive mile run in collegiate history period.

I know letsrun just loves guys like GF, but the kid isn't going to win, let alone run sub 4:00. He is extremely talented, but talent will only take you so far. Lack of training and lack of intelligent training will slow times down.
Where are you now, bitch?
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that Alan Webb ran 3:53 in HIGHSCHOOL.
Just saying...
German Fernandez is younger than Alan Webb was when he broke the HSR at Pre classic. German is 18 years, 2 months, 22 days old whereas Webb was 18 years, 4 months, 14 days old. Damn.
and this was an indoor race. so uhhhhh.
fantastic result! But should any of us be surprised??? I mean, for the love of christ, this kid is off the charts talented. A near 4:00 mile and then 2 hours later the 2nd fastest 2-mile (converted 3200 time) in high school history....as an under-trained 17 y.o. !! That double alone meant nearly anything he did the rest of his life shouldn't shock us. And the fact that he beat the entire state of CA by 49 seconds at the state x-c meet, after having only barely turned 17 also meant anything was possible with this kid. If he doesn't run 13:20 this year in the 5k i will be surprised

my god
anyone know the splits?
holy shit...I thought he would go 3:58ish at best because he had improved a lot from when he ran 4:00 1600 but then got injured...I guess he's back
damn...this is pretty shocking stuff
This is just incredible. We all know he's talented, but DAMN! That's faster than a lot of professional milers run during indoors. If he ended up running times like 3:35, 7:45, and 13:20 (by end of outdoor), it really would not surprise me. Running 3:56 indoors is impressive for any distance runner (other than the few best milers in the world), let alone from an 18 year old freshman.
I can't wish him enough luck with the rest of his season and career.
3:56.50A
Deal with that, doubters.
Just like Jordan Hasay, it's too bad a lot of people don't realize the greatness they're seeing. And then by the time they figure it out, it's too late to enjoy it. Go German. Go Jordan. PAUSATF rocks.
he is pissed from what happened at nationals XC. He is a man on a mission now.
Rupp is going down at Nationals!!!!!!!!!!
just sat down at my computer
as i recall it was a dell computer
saw what G fernandez ran
and i jizzed in my pants

Yes he did, back in the pack, outdoors, in June.

Beating dorien ulrey in a collegiate inoor meet is on a different level than running 3:53 in June outdoors behind Lagat and the great one, in highschool. That's on the level of Lindgren dominating them Russians.
