I am going to call BS on the whole 2:20 marathoner personna. He sounds too angry. If he was really a 2:20 guy, his training would have mellowed him out. Maybe he meant 2:20 half miler.

My buddy and I was running in the local state park one winter when we came upon a guy whose car was stuck in the ice after he had filled up (stolen)all of his water jugs from the parks fountain.
We just kept on running.
The other day I was warming up and I saw a boy who's pant leg was caught in his bicycle chain. I stopped and helped him to get the pant leg unstuck.
In 2005 I saw a man commit suicide while running. I was running on a dirt path in a ravine and a man jumped from a bridge that was the equivalent of 10 to 15 stories above the ravine. I was running towards him as he jumped and as he landed I was less than 100 meters away. I still remember the sound that it made when he landed, like somebody hitting a softball with a wet wooden baseball bat. At first I thought that it was a bad joke and that a dummy or large doll was dropped but as I got closer it was very obvious what I had seen. I ran up to three women that I had saw coming towards me and told one of them to call the police (as she had a cell phone). I stayed and answered questions for the police and then finished my run.
This was a course that I ran on a lot when I lived in this area and the next time that I ran it, two days later, I picked up some flowers and dropped them off where the man had landed and said a few words.
people tonight who stopped me to ask where a restaurant was were unbelievably apologetic about it, but I was on a very slow c/d after an 8M tempo, so it didn't matter at all. but seriously, haven't there been far too many times (of course not in the middle of a real workout) to single anything out?
Stopped to check out a crowd of people around a woman lying down...75 year old who had fallen down some stairs and hit her head. She was awake, alert, oriented...had good motor/sensory everywhere, and wasn't bleeding. I stuck around until EMS got ther and finished my run. I'm a nurse, so I felt like I could at least be of more help than the lawn guys who were there should something go wrong.
someone give this man a cookie!
i'm sure that dead guy really appreciated those flowers.
guys like you are always looking for a chance to STOP running.
you are unfunny. You put up a post, ask a question, get responses, and now you sit back making stupid wisecracks to all the participants. You are like the moron at the movie theater who makes comments throughout the entire movie - unoriginal, tiresome, and annoying.
Your whole act is nothing more than "I-know-you-are-but-what-am-I?"
You are beyond pity.
I was on a run through my neighborhood when I saw a guy get into his truck while yelling at his wife, squealed his tires as he backed out, and hit a parked car across the street. He just drove off.
Since I was close to my house, I ran back to the house and left a note saying what had happened along with my phone number. The victim called me and thanked me because the guy had denied hitting his car. After the victim told him that he had a witness, he fessed up and paid for the damages.
I've helped, or tried to help, numerous people with directions. The funny thing is that I get asked more often when I'm in a strange town and don't know my own way around.

Ironic this came up.
Last night, was out for a 6-mile out-and-back. Just before the turnaround, tiny little boy standing at the very end of a long driveway on a dirt road. Might have been 2-years-old, max. Can't see anyone around...hmmm...
Up the road, turn around, coming back. Now I see same toddler IN THE ROAD...with his maybe-3-year-old sister. =8-0 This time I stop and ask where Mommy & Daddy are. No answer. I ask if they are home, and I get a meek "yeah". Run up the driveway, attached garage is open and door to inside also open. I hear a vaccum running. See the Mom with her back to me vaccuming in the hallway, a nd I knock on the open door and startle her. She turns the vaccum off, and I ask if those are her kids, and tell her they are playing in the road.
She freaks, says "OMG", throws on slippers and runs down the driveway behind me. I continue on and hear her in the background giving the kids heck.
Wonder how long they would have been out there had I not stopped...
She probably beat those kids too :S
Last year I decided to turn an 8 mile run into an 11 mile run and added on into a neighborhood I had never run in before. No real reason why I hadn't, it just wasn't on one of my normal routes. I was only really paying attention to my footing on the uneven and cracked sidewalk when I saw an elderly woman unable to use her walker to help her out of the passenger side of her nurse's care. The nurse was all of 100 lbs and there was no way she was getting this patient out of the car on her own. I stopped, helped her to her feet and then into her front door. Once inside the nurse could take over.
She offered her thanks and gave me an ear full about how much a hip replacement "sucks" and how long they had both been trying to get some "sum-a-ma-b*tch" to help her out of the car. I was amused the rest of the way home and still check her driveway just in case whenever I run past her house.

steve is that you?
I was running the other day and I seen a football stadium, I decided "hell I'll run alone the sideline and check out the score and how the teams are playing and then I'll head back out"
Well I got in there and noticed it was #5 OSU taking a beating to the #1 USC team, I was going to go over there and hit a few touchdown passes for OSU even the game out ya know? Instead I decided I should just keep stride and hold up pace.
many times:
-pushed stalled cars out of intersections
-teammates helped a woman who had been raped get help from the police.
-helped out a HS kid who was running on the same trails as me while he was on vacation. He asked me to help him with his running form.
a run is just a run. even if it's a tempo run, or a race. If people really need help and are in bad situations, it's ok to help and stop the run for a few minutes.

I wouldn't stop for anything. Nothing comes between me and my run.
The other day I passed a guy who's car had broken down and he gave me a pathetic "help me" look. I looked at him and didn't break stride as I ran past his lack of self reliance.
I figure "helping people" is a good job for the walkers.
I know you are trolling, but what if you were running and got hit by a car, attacked by a dog, or anything like that and no one stopped to help?

F*** that, who the hell helps someone getting mauled by a dog by doing anything other than calling 911?
If you're hit by a car there is nothing someone walking by is going to do to stop the car from hitting you.
I have helped people push cars out of snow.
There was this girl on our college team years back before I was there running alone during the middle of the day down a busy road. There was a guy on the side of the road with the hood of his car popped open as if it was broken down. As she ran by the car he jumped out and grabbed her. He duct taped her wrists and her feet together and put her in the back seat. He went back out to close the hood as she luckily was able to start cutting the duct tape and then just rip it off using her house key she had on a necklace. She was able to jump out of the car and get help. Pretty scary.

Although in college we had two freshmen girls that were out on a run and an old guy in a car said he needed help. They went over to the car and he was naked from and touching himself so woman should definitely be careful.
The point about women needing to be careful is really crucial. I came upon someone once lying on the ground, and I thought he was sick or hurt. Went to him, asked him if he needed help, and he didn't respond. Then he suddenly jumped up, screamed, and ran off. In this case, no more harm than my being startled, but it does suggest that people can be unpredictable and in some cases possibly dangerous.
Which isn't to say I won't ever help someone--just be aware of where I am--if I'm in an isolated place, I'm likely to be more wary. If I'm running long, I carry a cell phone in case of emergencies, and I'd willingly make a phone call to get a person help if I don't feel safe helping them myself. But again, it really depends on the situation.
hi txRUNNERgirl.
if YOU were in trouble, i would help.

Rather ironic, I'd say, after seeing what you've posted in this thread...

Can we talk about how crazy hard this Olympic marathon course is?
