Hell ya. That was sweet, f*** them frenchies.
Bush told me I should hate the French so I do.
"Thats what we came here for to "SMASH" the Americans"!
Not the best thing ever to say about the sleeping giant. My little 8 yr old asked if the French really said the above. He then said "Phelps won't let them win now". He was perfectly calm during the race...just said, told you, and walked into his bedroom.
The French choked as badly as Katie Hoff.

Does anyone know what the previous best split for a 4x100 leg was?
Alain Bernard is juiced to the gills. Swimmers don't look like that.
eamon sullivan is awesome! should be reeal hard to beat in an individual race
Given that it is the Olympics, common sense dictates that the level of competition will be insanely high. Comments about smashing anyone at this level can turn out to bite, big time. I am American, and of course appropriately proud of this team's accomplishments, but more than anything I am enjoying the karma of the moment. And I would have many of the same emotions if, for example, the Americans mouthed off as to how they would smash the French. Swimming, running, etc,. isn't professional boxing where trash talk is needed to hype the gate...competitors engage in it at their peril.

What an ignorant statement. If you don't know what you are talking about you should probably keep your mouth shut...Katie was not favored to win, and based on her past performance most people who knew the race thought she would be lucky to medal....so getting second place is in NO WAY CHOKING...she went out hard and tied up at the end becuase she went out way over her head to try and get a medal.
getting second place when you were HEAVY favorites and had been talking trash for the past few days...that is an upset...
just becuase you watched it on TV does not make you an expert...
I don't think either choked. Even the French smashed the world record and got second. I agree it was an upset, but nobod choked.

I don't know about choking, but I know about drafting. Bernard blew it by (God knows why) hugging the lane-line next to Lezak. Check it out here:
http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/share.html?videoid=0811_hd_swb_hl_l0194&forcereload=trueLezak got a great tow. It's most obvious when the show the overhead shot. Bernard needed to spend more time planning his race execution and less time talking to the press. :)
France's biggest mistake was talking "smack" before the race, Hello!!, you know that's the best way to fire up Americans!!! This is what I love most about the Olympics, you get to cheer on other athletes from other sports besides football and baseball. Swimmers ROCK!!!

Sorry, but as a country we've hated the French long before Bush was around.
I know you're probably a 12 year old public school kid who can barely read, but let me teach you a lesson.
The west, and specifically the anglosphere, has never really been fond of France. That tyrant Bonaparte didn't help things any. In more recent times, De Gaulle and his hissyfit about NATO *really* didn't help things.
Why don't you read a bit, sonny?

It's true that the French aren't too popular. But everyone except the Americans wanted them to win that race.
The announcer kept saying he had the French winning everytime on paper, and that USA had to swim a perfect race. He was right on. The French 3rd leg made up more than a full second on USA. Don't forget Phelps broke the American record. Also Lezak is self-coached!!
Very simialr to running in that someone can really tie up in the final meters of a race and it's never over.
Awesome.
i too wondered how legit swimming relays are since there is no "baton"
How come there aren't more disqualifications?
I have hard time believing noone jumps before the touch.
Is there a beep or tone that sounds when your teammate touches the wall? That's the only way I could see the relay being legit. Otherwise, how do you not jump the gun? How can you see them touch and time it just right? I don't get it.
