Or maybe he would have run even faster as a senior in college than he did as a sophomore in college. In other words, 3:49.
Most people would at least want to run faster as a senior in college than as a senior in high school.
Would you rather be a 3.51 as a soph and 3.56 as a senior or 4.02 as a soph and 3.58 as a senior. There are a bunch of guys with a ton of talent (sub 48 in the 400, 4.10 miles in hs off minimal training) that never came close to running his times. Did they all pick the wrong training program later in life?
Lets look at another athelete: Peter Snell. Retired at 25 at the peak of his career. Was he burned out by all that mileage? How come with 1.44 speed (the same speed as ryun) could he only run a 3.54 instead of a 3.51. Maybe because he wasn't as training as efficiently as Ryun. Or maybe he had less talent and got more out of it. Or maybe he had more talent and got less out of it. If I am a Lydriad guy I argue one way. If am an interval guy I argue the other. No way to prove either.
