While North Penn's knack to put up good 4x8 times every year looks incredibly impressive on paper, you have to think that they are also the largest high school in the state. Odds are that out of 3,200 kids in 3 grades that you'll be able to find 4 good 800 runners, especially since they also have a junior high and freshman track program.
Even so, props to the coaches for being able to put a team like that out each year..even with the numbers, the coach still has to be pretty good.
I'm not sure about the entire state but Upper Darby HS is the largest in Southeastern PA according to the last data published in the annual school district report. NP was 2nd largest.
As the above poster mentioned, I don't think NP is the biggest in the state. Furthermore, there are plenty of big schools throughout the country, and not many (none?)of them consistently have 4 kids that can average 1:55-1:56 800s year in and year out.
OK, not really running-related, but is directly related to Montesquieu's reply. Does anyone remember the lyrics to "Boys' High Mambo" ??!! I tried a search for it, and it doesn't appear anywhere online.
