Peter was happy there at Stanford, but as young as he looks, he was probably getting ready to retire, but retire on his terms, not on the BS wisconsin put him through. He leaves on top. He is probably going to keep coaching a few elites too. Like someone else said previously, don't read into too much, he may just have wanted to retire.
And Weir being gone, that was his fault, he is a bit much.

You mean dismantling the entire distance side of the program. Brining it down to mediocrity?
Stanford D-runners are more adept at beating drums during the long races than running fast in them like they used to be.
Just my umblpinion
Haven't heard about this rumor. Are you sure Jerry is leaving the Badgers?
It is not a rumor. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to play the anonymous game.
heard both sides of this rumor a month ago.
to the original poster ... why are you glad tegen is leaving?
I would agree that his effective cessation of recruiting was a decent indicator that he was getting ready to retire. That's how Princeton, with its 0 athletic scholarships, managed to pull in an insane recruiting class: pick up the kids who in a normal year would have gone to Stanford.

Please send me a PM by going to the T&F News board where I use the same handle.
Andy Palmer will have to be one of the main candidates for this job. He ran at Stanford, has been working with Lananna for years coaching with one of our sports best and he does most of the recruiting for Oregon.
As I said before, the quality of coach Stanford gets will depend on what happens with Floreal. He is one of 4 candidates for the Arkansas job. If he gets the job, then Stanford SHOULD hire a distance-oriented head coach. If he does not get the Arkansas job, then they will have to hire an asst. track coach to oversee distance. This is a big difference.
If Floreal leaves, there is no way someone like Andy Powell would get the head coaching gig at Stanford. It would go to someone like Schumacher or Vigilante. Similarly, no way someone like Schumacher or Vigilante would take the job to be Floreal's assistant if he stays. That would be a situation more favorable for an Andy Powell type.
Princeton essentially has unlimited scholarships, as the entire university is under a new system where no student graduates with student loans.

That's great for ASICS but if the Stanford AD doesn't pay competitive rates then coaches will leave for towns known for their meth labs, moonshine stills, and exaggerated XC attendance claims deep in the isolated boonies, in Eugene, Fayetteville, Boulder, etc. Afterall, surprisingly enough, they have cable/DSL, sewage, running water, and telephone service in those area too by now.

not the same as free college
Princeton, Stanford, and other top private schools openly discriminate against qualified Asian applicants by conjuring up creative admissions standards to enforce unwritten legacy racial quotas. Public universities must publish their policies and obey civil rights laws. Private universities, for the time being at least, are exempt from the law. Consequently, Princeton/etc. admit less than 1/2 the Asians in the freshman class as does the University of California system. Decades of this discriminatory policy has had negative consequences, as the reputations and quality of post-graduate programs have diminished. Thus, I predict competition for the best students will force Princeton/etc. to become more judicious and fair for all students.
What about ex-Stanford runner Greg Jimmerson who is an assistant coach (+ Josh McDougal's coach) at Liberty?
yeah i thought of jimmerson too, he is a good guy but somewhat limited on coaching experience
and i dont see how tegen brought down the program, how is 3x ncaa champs in xc bringing it down? you guys are weird
The reason the "boys" on this message board talk crap about Tegen is because he had more success on the women's side than men's side at Stanford. Any coach that follows this pattern will be held in a less favorable light by the immature boys on this board. I happen to have coached both men and women at the HS level, and collegiate levels, both DI and DIII. Coaching is coaching and anyone who thinks it is less prestigious to coach women to success doesn't know crap about reality. It was much easier coaching men.
Just a lone man's point of view.
Looks like the throws position that was filled just a few weeks ago after Weir was forced out is open again!
