Without question, the best running camp for marathoning is at Mammoth with Meb, Deena, and Hall. That camp has Olympic medals to prove it. Hansons, at best, have grabbed a 4th and 3rd at the last two US trials.
You go where you can develop the best. If the Mammoth lake team has a training strategy different than what works for McDougal he would struggle. If Hanson's strategy matches his own, he could do amazing things there. Running is very different than your football analogy, in football you list two different leagues. All the pros race each other in running, there are no different leagues.
