I think Tergat is one of the finest athletes Kenya has ever produced. And I have much respect for him and his accomplishments.
Having said that, I will remind you that Haile, having run the Berlin Marathon literally alone for more than 10 miles, missed Tergat's record by less than a minute. Had he had a competition to the finishline, I am totally certain that he would have taken the WR that day.
Paul had his fellow country man pushing him to the end when he broke the WR at 2:04:57 - Geb's time was I believe 2:05:56.
These two have had a great career on the track I am eager to see the final outcome on the road races.
Finally, after coming that close to the marathon WR and after making a career out of breaking WRs - 21 in total -, Haile will get the record from Tergat in due time. Hopefully, this year.
