Hey, I love running more then anything in the world as far as activity goes but the intensity of bike racing is far and away harder then running. My best 5k is 16:48 and I've run marathons at 10000 feet. I can run 75 to 100 miles week after week and have done so for many years. If I can run under 17:00, Lance has the ability to run a 5000 well under 16:00 I believe. If anyone thinks cycling is a walk in the park I can only invite you to a "bus stop" ride in Boulder or come to Mt. Evans hill climb and find out how easy it is. I can only go with my own experience and a cycling race in Boulder is 2 to 3hrs of pain. My heart rate hits 185 to 195 right from the start and it is there until the race is over. In the final miles your legs are going numb and you can't think straight. It feels like you have a 1000 lbs gorilla on your back.
Running is more taxing on the bones and tendons but the musclar pain in cycling is incredible. Turn on the Paris Roubaix and tell me cycling is easier then running.
