It's the exact opposite, the most religious people believe they are the chosen ones and that their god has given them carve-outs and loopholes in their "rules", they just have to be "clever" and find them between the lines.

Orthodox jewish people believe they can make up a loophole to use machinery on their sabbat by making their entire block their "home" by simply stringing a wire around it, so they don't have to walk stairs and just use the electric elevator instead, etc. Insanity.

BYU students (mormons) believe they have a loophole and can have sex before marriage simply by calling it something else (soaking) and having someone else cause the interaction to become sex. It's absolutely insanely ridiculous but they do it all the time.

As soon as an athlete starts crediting "god" for choosing them when they win, therefore somehow holding back their competitors, I immediately become suspicious. What loopholes did they find acceptable for their god?

Well, in the Unite the Right rally they were carrying Nazi flags and chanting "Jews will not replace us." That seems a bit fascist to me. Also, there were Nazi flags among those rioting on January 6th.

As for the left being anti-religious,that in only in opposition to governmental imposition of religion on us citizens. For example, in Louisiana and Oklahoma imposing religion in public schools. Also, read up on Project 2025.

I don't see the Left being anti-religious in regards to everyone's personal life. The wall between Church and State has served us very well and is being threatened by the Right, not the Left. Let's keep it that way.

What on earth are you talking about? Far right people want tax cuts, gun rights, free speech and minimal government. Those are the exact opposite of the things you listed.

How do you know what BYU students are doing? Because you read an article claiming they do? I actually remember reading an article on that a while back. I can assure you that it isn't a thing and even if anyone did, they would know it's not a loophole. Years ago, there were rumors that they had found another loophole - "Be moral, go oral". Not sure if it was a joke from members or the typical rumors trying to make Mormons look like freaks, but I never heard of anyone doing it ... and no one would honestly think it's moral.

What is "insanely ridiculous" is that you would state something so blatantly false about a group and then use it as evidence against them. As to your argument about loopholes, which Mormons have been caught or even suspected of doping?

While many private citizens in the US aren’t Islamophobic and are accepting of Muslims, I agree that my govt, the US govt, is hypocritical. Saying they support individual freedoms of Muslims and the Islamic world yet, for decades, have undermined democracy in the Middle East when those democracies weren’t installing policies favorable to US economic interests. And position themselves as a champion of human rights yet don’t sanction its ally Israel for continued violations of international law and human rights abuses in the West Bank.

Ultimately, the US, like any nation, acts in its own self interest, even when inconsistent with its values. They should just own it and stop pretending America is exceptional or morally superior with regards to values and equality.

When they have no counter argument they downvote.
