How ridiculous. Sydney has never been "canceled". She's one of the most popular women's athletes at these games. I and many others can't stand her given her ultra-religious schtick and the fact that she's scared to actually race real competition, but she has never been "canceled". Total victim mentality.
I think social media makes a lot of people feel unecessarily but justifiably victimized. If you look at comments, message boards, etc you'll find the most deranged and misplaced vitriol regarding just about anything if you're looking for it. If you're a public figure and you get focused on detractors' commentary, it's way too easy to think that you're being persecuted.
Terrible test scores indeed but you think religion is the problem and not LGBTQ, DEI and gender change issues forced on our youth while the time could be better spent actually teaching math/science/reading?
ok bigot
Name calling is a sign of someone without anything intelligent to say. Come back when you're interested in an actual discussion.
My thread on this was deleted (letsrun mods church meeting?) but I still cannot understand how egomanichal you’d have to be think god is occupied by world class athletes running fast around a track or jumping high over a bar.
These earthly beings are the most physically optimized of their particular species, so I can see a creator/overseer being more interested in these extreme outliers. Intentionally-made-by-their-gods super mice seem to get incredible amounts of attention in medical journal articles.
she is a huge talent but hot damn she sounds brain washed
I worry that 15-20 years from now there will be a documentary about the brainwashing and manipulation of this talented athlete. Her personality (at least the one she presents publicly) changed completely when she met her pastor husband and starting being coached by one of the more suspicious coaches out there
what planet are you people on? for a while dating back to making the team as a teen, high profile. couple years now she's had multiple ads on tv. all manner of sponsorships.

0.5-1.5% of men and women alike are estimated to fit the clinical criteria for psychopathy alone. The fact is, a small but statistically relevant percentage of the population are negatively neurodivergent.
Given that there are hundreds of millions of English speakers using the internet, it's little surprise public figures are inundated with this nonsense.

They always have a 'look' to them, too. It's in the eyes.
I get it, though. Religion, more than anything, offers a salve to existential angst. Trust in divine providence is undefeated in providing a source of comfort.
I have no problem with people living a delusion and believing in their little fictional beings. Some people are just weak like that, and need a dictator in the sky to relieve them of the pressures of having to think for themselves. Jesus himself says, in the gospel of Matthew, that his followers should expect to be mocked for their beliefs. I am more than happy to oblige.
what exactly is the difference between religion and conspiracy theories? why is it okay for us to look down upon conspiracy theorists but need to stay quiet when someone is spouting about some man in the sky?
poor syd, I can't believe they cancelled a world record hurdler. they didn't even show any of her races! it's such a travesty done by the left wing cabal
Was the OP trying to get people to like her? It didn't work. She still tops my list of athletes I wish would disappear.
It’s just the well worn schtick that all athletes who suffer from the weight of their own expectations invariably resort to so it’s nothing new or unique.
Look at arguably the most famous American sportsperson active today - LeBron. Has spent a career crafting this narrative he is “disrespected” when nobody doesn’t respect him in fact sports fans and media have bent over backwards to cup his nuts, over-celebrating his nice but not overly relevant scoring record and finding any which way to justify him in the same conversation with Jordan.
I mean we even heard this coming out of the Lyles camp post the 200 and “proving the haters wrong” - I mean the guy was the focus of basically his own damn documentary and was slurped incessantly heading into Paris - oh and all the expectations were created by him opening his mouth and talking about the double and breaking WRs.
So somewhere along the line it just became the thing to be the victim. I think it’s as part and parcel of the modern entitled athlete mindset as positive affirmations and visualization was in the past. And the greater the anxiety and self expectations, the greater the victim mentality and chirping - they simply go hand in hand.
Honest question -- where is this coming from? She has 1.4 million IG followers, is a beloved Olympic champion, has huge endorsement deals, etc.
She's either 1) so consumed by social media that she's angry/so put off by seeing any negative comments that she can't rationalize all the support she does have or 2) this is an intentional marketing ploy to sell more books/make her more sympathetic & valuable.
I hate buzzwords. Just say how you feel. I don't think there is some mass movement to "cancel" her. I think some people just might not share her religious views. Most can separate that out & still be a fan so, again, I'm asking where is the cancelling? When you say that you make it sound like that's the overwhelming opinion. It's not.
