As my wife pointed out, surely they had to scramble the lineup because Lyles was missing. Probably not many reps with the combo.
It doesn’t matter who is in the lineup. When the runner in front passes a certain point, you go…..these guys either don’t listen or just take matters into their own hands which continues to prove disastrous.
Right, this is my thing. It's one thing to have a bobble during the actual exchange, those kinds of mistakes happen and are understandable. But there's no excuse for taking off at the wrong time, just insanely dumb mistake. College kids have this figured out. Even disciplined high schoolers have this figured out.

Should matter grown men sprinters, should be able to win a medal with safe passes, they are wild and joke not even close, it's like the panic button goes off, they should pick the best 4 college guys from America and get them a coach and then these diva's don't have to worry about it.
Time to consider a dedicated 4 x 100 relay team made up of guys not competing in the 100 or 200.
The US is probably the only country who could pull it off. The 4x100 looked smooth at World Relays and semis. This is ridiculous. They need to keep the team as consistent as possible.

take a page from Canada-continuity is huge with guys like DeGrasse and Aaron Brown being in their 3rd Olympics together and a lot of practice; a mild delay on the 1st handoff for Canada but nothing compared to the Coleman to Kenny disaster...
They scheduled the 4X100 prelims the morning of the 200m final.
2 of the US 4X1 members could not run the relay prelims. And of course Lyles could not run the relay final, but that wouldn’t have mattered after the first exchange.
Today should be the prelims and tomorrow should be the 4X1 final, like the 4X4.
Definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over, each time expecting a different result.
Whatever it is we're doing now ain't working. Radical change needed. A dedicated team made up of semi-final losers in the 100m Olympic Trials with slick passes should be competitive.
I also like the idea of a dedicated relay team, but don't we have some rules regarding the relay pool? I thought they can't just choose any 4 Americans (although I think they should)
We should start running the 4X100m at the US Olympic trials. If you want to run the relay, form a team with three other dudes and prove that you can actually get the baton around the track. If your team wins, your team goes en bloc to the Olympics.
Want to run an all-star team with the top 4 open 100m runners? Fine, but you have to make it through the trials without f#cking up.
The first three runners need to be set in stone. No more new teams in the finals. Only the anchor could possibly be subbed. How do you see the big ass piece of tape on the ground and the incoming runner is no where near it and your brain says RUN! Just mind boggling. Never let Bednarek or casual Kerley on a relay again.

We don’t even need semi final losers. Our 4th-8th place 100/200 guys from trials will do just fine.
