We merged like 5 threads into 1 and sort of combined the titles. Rojo, who said Rooks had a 1% chance at a medal, started a thread pointin gout the betting odds on Bovada were 33-1 when the race started.
between valby at the trials and rooks at the games, just loving seeing these brave young underdogs take a shot and win medals.
We can only hope the women distance crew can do 1/2 as well as the men. 1500 still in play and 10k I'm putting my money on Emily Mackay. That's right, not Elle and not the They but Mackay!

Hey hey, I got some money on him to medal before the race! Not much but I'll take it.
I was kicking myself after not putting any money on Hocker. Already got my bets in for Hoppel (to win and the medal), Arop (to medal), Muir (to win and to medal), and St. Pierre (to medal). Fingers crossed.
I feel like there is a ton of value with the Americans since they are just as good as the Europeans but they don't have the Diamond League times.
I mean, I'll take Hoppel's 1:42 in a championship race over the rest of the field's rabbited 1:41's. 7-1 seems like a good deal.

Rooks' move was very reminiscent of Mackay at world indoors this year. I could see her getting it done if she gets through the semis.
Never seen the US do so well overall despite Jamaica being nowhere. Hocker, Hall, Rooks, amazing efforts. Can't wait to see what you'll pull out in the 5000 and marathon. Good job USA.
Absolute legend. My top moment as a US fan this Olympics, with all respect to Hocker and Nuguse. Just f'n special to see. The balls on this kid. Unreal!
Surging to the front at 350 to go was AWESOME. Everyone just watched for about 10 strides trying to figure out what was going on.
How about the surge to get back to silver?! Where did this come from??!! U!S!A!
Rooks taking the lead was a huge, Bob Kennedy moment: “I’m here to play.” Then he holds it, looking almost like Centro in 2016, through the curve. Once he sharpens his 1500m speed and finish he’ll be a sub-8 guy. Incredible.
That is the race Henry Marsh would have run in '84 if he hadn't been sick. Right down to the time. And it is even better at a BYU grad, isn't it?
So smart by Rooks to stay out of the hot pace at the back and move up, but not a lot of Americans have the balls to commit to moving up on that outside with 500 to go and actually take the lead. usually they move up and the kicking starts and they're all the way out in lane 3 when it happens. Damn, ballsy move and even better hanging on in that last 400. Thought that he was going to get overhauled at 200 to go, but the Girma fall was a big, big deal. Unlike the rocketfueled women's steeple, this was a really good steeple with human times. Well done.
Also, the announcers missed it, but the fall by the Ugandan mid-race had a long term effect as well.
