She grabbed Tsegay's arms for no reason. Probably wasn't purposeful, but it shouldn't have happened.
It was definitely on purpose. Kipyegon probably felt justified, but you can't grab someone's arm in a race and try to pull them backwards. That's nuts.
You also can't just stick your arm out to slow someone else down, because they're not sufficiently far ahead behind you so that you can step in front.
You need to outrun people, not impede them so that you can get ahead.
I am yet to see a video that shows everything that transpired between Tsegay, Kigyegon and Chibet as when the elbows staring flying the camera was not on the leaders. The only footage I have seen shows the very end of the jostling. What I have been able to piece to together based upon the incomplete video is Kipyegon was leading and hugging the rail. Tsegay was several places back and made a move to get to the front, cut over rather aggressively and forced Kipyegon to chop her stride and nearly step off of the track. The video shows the obvious frustration of all three runners, with Chibet and Kipyegon verbally chastising Tsegay. I have no dog in the fight and merely wanted to watch a competitive race. What happened was unfortunate and certainly determined the outcome of the race to a certain extent. Tsegay, whether at fault or not was obviously shaken by what happened. Fortunately Tsegay has another race (10k) and Kipyegon has the 1500. I wish them both the best of luck.
