I’m so tired of this crap. No other sport has fans that care at all about doping allegations. But it infests every thread on Letsrun. There isn’t a single athlete in all of track and field you can discuss without someone popping in to accuse them of doping.
I just added in the What a joke to the title. We watched the replay. The contact just before 800m to go SHOULD NOT result in a DQ of anybody. . Seriously people.
Faith knows Tsegay is going to drift and she kind of proactively gives her shove but it wasn't that bad. Our sport is a joke. If it that happened 5 meters from the finish, yes, but 820 meters? No.
I agree. It’s a shame we got such a fast last K and the judges penalize the inevitable contact when it really gets fast like that.

Let's nail down the details here. So you believe that somewhere between 5 and 820 meters shoving is allowed. Can you give us the distance from the finish where shoving should be disallowed? What's the cutoff point?
Also, what shove would be bad enough? Only shoves that result in a fall?
Finally, it didn't look like a shove as much as grabbing and pulling Tsegay's wrist to slow her down.

I will say this until I'm blue in the face. When you occupy a spot on the track that someone wants to take, it's on them to avoid and not create the situation where you (the runner being passed) might initiate contact. The initiation of the contact is not the single determining factor in terms of culpability.
That makes sense but then again like Robert says it's really up to DISCRETION!!!!!!
Discretion depends on experience and knowledge as well as interpretation of the rules. The thing is Faith suffered Karma today and was dealt a set of judges and race officials who did not discretely rule in her favor due to her cheating ways as Steve has also pointed out.
Kipyegon literally put Tsegay in an arm bar. Can’t do that. This is track not wrestling.
How did Tsegays arm even get in a position for that to happen? Just take a deep breath and ask yourself that question. This is absurd.
You are getting too emotional here. It's true Gidey did not have room and Faith had a right to defend herself, but you also can't attempt to pull someone to the ground by their arm for 5 seconds.
I'm staying out of what decision should be made here. I could see them letting it go, DQ'g both, or doing what they did. Not easy on this stage and glad I don't have to make the call.

I wouldn't be surprised if Italy put in the complaint to get Battocletti bumped into the medals. There would be no point in Ethiopia making a complaint
I don’t know whether Faith Kipyegon is actually doping, and you don’t either. The same is true for Grant Fisher.
Baselessly accusing people of PEDs and doping detracts from actually interesting conversations about professional running, such as racing and training. It encourages cynicism, including among the young runners we know use this site. It does not help the governing bodies of the sport catch any cheaters. All it does is poison the discourse, and drive people away from the sport.

It’s bad for the site and it’s bad for the sport.
This is wrong on several levels. Ask baseball fans if Barry Bonds should be in the HOF. Tiger Woods, LeBron James and others have haters who believe they used PEDs. People in other sports care too. And it's not doping allegations that are bad for the sport, it's doping itself that's bad for the sport. And the doping is so prevalent and widespread that every outstanding performance is suspect. Eliminate the doping and the allegations will fade away. Unfortunately, the dopers are always a step ahead of the testing so allegations are here to stay. Personally, I assume clean until an athlete fails a test but not everyone thinks like me (thank goodness).
