Mask wearing is only so highly politicized in the US. I live in SE Asia and every time I go out I see people wearing masks. Maybe 1 in 5, depending on where it is. And it's people across the demographic spectrum - elderly, kids, even teens. I doubt if these people have any idea of what woke even means and no one thinks wearing a mask or not wearing one is any kind of political statement.
The air pollution is also horrendous so that might be a factor. But, really, if someone thinks that wearing a mask gives them some extra protection against illness or air pollution what is harm? Why should anyone else care?
Based on your post, it makes sense you live in a place called Bangkok.

Rojo why do you use the word as so much? Seriously. I've asked this question before but the post always gets deleted and I've been temporarily banned a few times. We all notice that you love the word "as." So why won't you tell us why you use it?
I think he’s super annoying too, but I never noticed this.
Thank you for this riveting reporting Rojo. I hope your next post is about Jakob washing his hands after using the restroom or sneezing into his elbow. These are crucial updates before the race.
Seriously. Clicked on this to see what random poster started this nonsense &, of course, it's a website founder. There's nothing political about this. Many athletes do stuff like this before big competitions. Have you watched any of the Tour de France? Total non-story. Why can't you find some clickbait that actually gets people excited about the sport or talking about training? Smh.
I agree this thread is a big nothingburger, but I gotta give credit to Rojo for his engagement strategy, however cheap it was. He combined two topics that never fail to generate clicks here: Jakob and face masks. Smooth move, Rojo.
Lol. Posts on here are ridiculous. This guy is an elite athlete who is taking absolutely no chances in getting sick, doesn’t matter if the “studies” are fabricated or if it is liberal nonsense. He was ill last year and is trying everything to avoid that.
Covid went through the Tour de France peleton. Riders started wearing masks and some had to drop out. I see his point, and I've worn masks in busy public spaces leading up to races that were important to me this summer.
I hate that wearing a mask to avoid sickness is political. Covid really broke conservatives' brains. It really was as simple as "You should have to wear a mask in public for a while to prevent the spread of this new, incredibly contagious virus", and Republicans spun it into "The government wants to control everything about your life and the mask is a symbol of it. Mask wearers are sheep. All the scientists and doctors that did studies on mask effectiveness showing they work actually faked the data". Now we see the ramifications, where people think it's newsworthy that someone would wear a mask to prevent the spread of sickness.

They act like woke is an insult. It literally means to be aware of what is happening. They are willfully ignorant.
"I take staying away from illness very seriously. There are many people here from other nations and other training groups. The last thing I want is for someone to infect me and ruin my chances here," he said according to a translation."
On his rivalry with Kerr, he said the following:
"It's hard to refer to him as a rival when he's never there. He is known as the Briton who never competes. I try to participate in as many races as I can, and I want to be here to entertain. It's great to be a part of this."
