in your opinion, what are the top 5 NCAA distance jobs?
If considering a mixture of prestige, location, resources, history, pay, etc, here is my quick thought list (in no particular order) that extends slightly past 5
It really depends what metrics you are using. CU doesn't pay well but Boulder is a great place to live and train if you can afford it.
Oregon is very well funded, tradition, etc but crappy academics
Stanford is great but hard to be able to afford to live. Assistants will live in a shoe box.
Villanova - mid major, poor funding but great tradition
NAU - mid major, great tradition, amazing places to run, poor academics
It will be interesting to see if the mid major/power 4 ends plusses and minuses makes it better to be a mid major with no football or better to be in power 4 where every resource is sucked dry from everything because of football.

NAU
Colorado
Oregon
BYU
Arkansas
Stanford
I thought about BYU and Arkansas too.
I dismissed them and chose Stanford and Villanova because of location, and of course history.
ALSO maybe the is out here playing chess not checkers.
the recent ncaa head count roster limit legislation maybe force schools to pick what they are going to focus on. No way was Tennessee going to be able to be competitive in track and XC if rosters get capped to 30 men
Carlson stint at UT was coming to an end. Men’s team in turmoil and staff revolution already begun. Letter from latest transfer on way out the door to entire athletic dept was last straw.
It is amazing how Brosnan keeps coming up on Letsrun as a candidate for big time Director jobs. People who are in charge of hiring coaches at universities are not "fans". They look objectively at resumes and accomplishments. There is absolutely zero chance a guy who has one year as an assistant and then was let go, is going to get a job as a director with no experience being a director at any level. There are too many to count, coaches who have far more experience and far less baggage. Let it go people. Brosnan isn't getting any of these jobs.
Are you unfamiliar with the concept of a "joke" or a "meme"? Honestly how can people on these boards be so clueless as to fail to detect obvious jokes?
I hear Jon Gruden is in Knoxville. His wife was a cheerleader there.

NAU great tradition? Is 8 years long enough to be considered a "tradition". 2016 seems to be the year they came onto the national scene. Intermittent before that nationally.
This times 100. No way I'm contributing to CU now; just 100% NO! I got sick to my stomach when I read this announcement. Just about anybody with morals/ethics in our coaching profession would have been a better hire. Incredibly disappointing.

I think a decade of dominance in distance running is a pretty significant period lol. Plus before that, it’s not like they were irrelevant with guys like Lopez Lomong and David McNeill. I think it’s pretty clear that they will stay one of the top distance programs for as long as collegiate sports exist. Location is literally one of the best places for distance running in the world and too much momentum right now

PS I wonder if the Prime Effect means more money for coaches. It will be interesting to see what he is making at CU. He was making $225K at UTK.
Also, it does not appear he owes UT anything, but if he had left for another SEC school he would have owed 50% of the total base pay remaining on the contract.

Sub Wisconsin for Villanova and I think you’ve got it. BYU is obviously a prime job, too, but it’s obviously a niche market for mostly LDS kids and candidates.
Better pick than what everyone thought. Better than the Malones, ,Culpeppers Ritzenheims, give him a chance.I will wager he will do fine. plus he will recruit the state of Colorado and he won't run off world class talent looking to train in Boulder.
