Mu runs 1157-point race on Friday ... board erupts and declares her career over
Tuohy runs 1149-point performance on Saturday ... board erupts and declares her the next Faith Kipyegon
No one is claiming she would be the next Faith Kipyegon. She is just a girl who likes working hard, doing things in the right way to push the boundaries. It is hard to compete, particularly against others who may take shortcuts to get things done. But running is not only about winning, it is also about self discovery and achieving full potential. End of day, there will be no regret if she tries hard and leaves everything on the track.
All elite runners train hard to reach their full potential, and none take shortcuts. Self-discovery? What?
This was a good result, she looked really strong. It might have faster if the pacing was good. It was supposed to be at 15:00 but Bush was running 15:25.
In all fairness Bush had just ran 4:07 in the 1500, so having her pace the 5000 was a big ask. I think Tuohy was going for sub 15:00, but the pacing at the beginning threw it off.
4:07 in the 1500 is a good result for Bush. I have been hoping she gets a pro contract like Steelman and Shaw did so that she can see what she can do as a pro without a college class load to juggle. I think she still has a lot of untapped potential.
I am glad to hear she has more races coming up! Sounds like she is fully healed and nearly back. Can't wait to see how she progresses as a pro now that she can just focus on training without school and not having to run 3 full seasons a year.
H'm. This is a sport where natural talent does not matter. It is chemistry. "Talent" comes in a bottle.
That said, Katelyn ran well, improving significantly in a few weeks and beating the sixth place USTAF finisher pretty decisively. Katelyn is not a fame seeker and not an Armstrong-level sociopath. She seems genuinely happy. Still, what happens if she decides to play along? This is a doping sport, and if you do not lay along you go home. And the fans have no clue.
Nice work for her. I am glad that she is healthy, or at least glad until the tuohy trolls start coming out of the woodwork again. At this rate, she should be able to drop 14:50s in a paced race in good conditions in Europe after the Olympics if there is one.
