If that's what Mu was expecting, then she's batsh*t crazy because she didn't train hard this year. If she wants the attention and money and gold medals then you need to work hard and actually show up to races.
She has nobody to blame but herself.
I’ve seen many criticisms of Mu, but tonight is the first time I’ve seen her accused of not training hard. Getting injured usually means the opposite.
Do you have any sources to back up your claim that she wasn’t training hard this year prior to her injury?
It's not uncommon to see an High school or college XC athlete slack off over the summer and then try to train at the peak fitness level they were at the previous year and get hurt a few weeks into the season.
She hasn't said much lately, but not saying anything after the fall, and having her coach go on a PR tour about why the US trials needs to be changed indicates she's isn't taking it well and her handlers are (smartly) having her avoid the press.
So she didn't whine and complain. You are a liar.
She's previously whined and complained about the media, it being too running focused etc. Her PR team isn't letting her talk to media rn because she won't do her image any favors. Her "I don't care about track" shtick just sounds like cope when you aren't on the Olympic team.
I don’t blame her. The Olympics are the highlight of any runner’s career. If I bombed out of the trials like she did, I’d probably take the rest of the year off and doing something else.
I am a big fan of hers - I think she is terrific; great talent, great personality; she has hit a bump in the road but the racing season is long and so will be her career.
Whoever wins in Paris doesn't give a crap about where Mu races after the US final.
They'll not be losing a lot of sleep over it, no. But people constantly brining up Mu and what might have happened would still be annoying.
But after this race that's not really going to be much of a talking point any more.
this makes so much sense now. I'll admit I was scratching my head at the original comment but it's actually spot on.
I wonder if it is the curse of the lack of adversity Mu had in that 2021 year that actually is ruining her now: she waltzed in after her first pro season and just grabbed a gold medal making it look so easy. Now she's had injury problems, high expectations, low motivation to train and interest in other pursuits... nothing is easy all of a sudden. That must be very difficult even if many don't actually pity her. Once you reach the mountain peak there's nowhere to go but down.
However, I don't think she is done (if she doesn't want to be) like some on here are saying. American record in 800 less than a year ago doesn't just evaporate.
