Phenomenal race, I think Jakob's the heavy favorite in any race with pacers and wavelights.
But he won't have those in the Olympic final! Kerr still knows exactly what he has to do and exactly what it'll take. Can't wait to see them face off in Paris
This. Today’s race means nothing for Paris. We already know Jakob is Super Man when it comes to time trialing. Not having pacing help is his kryptonite in the 1500.
it’s funny how you losers made “time trialing” a bad thing. back in the days that was called a WR, now all you keyboard warriors make it sound like it’s not legit. FO
55.17, 1:37 with two laps to go, 1:50.66(55.49), 3:32.5 with one lap to go, 2:46.37(55.71), 3:26.73- 40.36 last 300m ~ 54.24 last 400m, ~1:49 last 800m
Lolz, just watched Jingy run an exceptional 1500m. No bones about it, he turned up and dished out a proper whooping to everyone today.
Yet, 3 rounds of 1500m, and no pacemakers- he ain'tdoing that at the Olympics.
He's looking good, but I doubt very much he's untouchable - Kerr will take him seriously no doubt, but it's going to be a race.
Naguse- no eye of the tiger
Tim C - looks good
And then, without prejudice, there's the rest... and they are.
Can'wait for the Olympics and racing, not perfect time trialling... it's different, but Jingy might still win, he might not 😀
Yeah, he's not going to be running 3:26 in any of those races, but he still is in great shape and has proven he knows how to get through rounds. Now if someone like, for example, Alan Webb had a dominant performance like that, I would still say it's 50/50 whether he's a medal contender or not. But Jakob has proven to be a consistent performer, and this result only strengthens his position as the favorite.
I also disagree about Nuguse. He made a move to catch Jakob on the backstretch, but there was already too much space between them, and Jakob was not slowing down. Better positioning and he could have maybe dipped under 3:27 himself...

Did you just start following track and field today? Jacob has already been in an Olympic final, and he won without pacers or wavelights.
Did you just start following track and field yesterday? Jakob had Tim Cheruiyot as his de facto pacer in that race.

Very weird logic. Strength-based runner beats competition by 2 seconds, but you think that running multiple rounds will tire him out somehow as much or more than others? I would wager that 3 rounds would give him a bigger advantage than aerobically weaker runners *if* he maintains the same strategy of running fast from the front during the final, wire to wire. Now if he ran slower and within striking distance of others' fitness (like at the world championships) then he leaves the possibility of being outkicked at the end.
If the Norweigans were smart they'd sacrifice Nordas as the pacemaker to Jakob to guarantee a win for Norway at the 1500m final. Josh Kerr can't outkick Jakob in a 3:26 or 3:27 race.
I "love" it when people assume countries or federations are a single entity projecting their will on any individual belonging to them. Specifically I'd like to see "Norwegians", whatever that means, convince the world bronze medallist, coached by none other than Jakob's father, throw away any medal chances to pace his rival.
And there's no guarantee that Nordas makes the final.
Jakob raced like Kipyegon today. I've been calling for him to do that. Normally he screws around at the beginning of the race and needlessly sacrifices so much time and energy by being forced to loop the field and run extra meters in lane 2 or 3. In both of the world championship defeats he gave away more ground than the losing margin.
Today I knew it was a good sign when he started from the rail instead of his typical spot far on the outside. Maybe Jakob requested that. It forced him to accelerate off the line and grab the rail just behind the pacers.
From that point he was home free. It was just a matter of 3:26 what.
The world record will come later, whenever he's ready and requests that type of pace. He'll have to make sure it's exactly the same scenario...starting from the inside and making sure nobody bothers him to the railbird spot.

Why would Nordas consent to that?
Now that would be the ultimate. Sounds like something out of Star Wars or Game of Thrones.
Gjert demands that Narve sacrifice himself for Jakob and Jakob and his siblings agree to forgive Gjert. A Hallmark story.

You must be forgetting who won Gold in the 1500m at the last Olympics..
Brian Komen is another interesting case. He is listed at 25, almost 26. Yet, he has no results at all on IAAF prior to 2023, when he emerged with a 3:33. Now he has knocked off another 5 seconds in a year. Where was all of the developing stage in his career? No 3:40s or 3:37s or 3:35s before last year? Now he drops 5 seconds in one year to a world all-time elite time in his mid-20s. Is there any plausible explanation?

The case for Jakob front running just got a lot better. True, no pacers for 2.5 laps would take a toll, but I am becoming convinced no one is better equipped to pay it in 2024.
At least, as important, it’s getting crowded behind him. That means second place is going to spend a lot of energy in the fight between Kerr, Cheruiyot, Nuguse and 1-2 brave others.
OK, grouping Kerr with the 3rd-place contingency is likely really unfair. But it’s true that he, and certainly all the others, would spend more inefficiencies on the way to starting up their kick. You could see this with Nuguse today. I think he could’ve run 3:28 low, maybe even 3:27 high if he hadn’t had to have fought with Cheruiyot. this, in spite of the fact that Jakob made it look like Nuguse ran a frustratingly slow race.
Well, anyone who wants a chance for silver, and certainly gold, better not let a 5m gap open up already by 800 like they did today.

You should read the entire thread before responding to posts on the first page. I already commented on that race.

with his progression, I wouldn't be surprised he upsets both Jakob and Kerr in Paris, but ultimately "vanishes" in a year.

Kerr wasn't nearly as strong back then though, and Tim was his de facto pacer, not seeing that in Paris.
