yes he 1000% could make that leap. The Voorhees kid is a rising junior, and ran a 4:15 as a first year track athlete. Don’t know the kid, but fair to assume he had zero base mileage coming into track, other than soccer running (which can be significant - but not equivalent to 40-50 mile weeks). Barrett, an incredible runner, ran that same time as a sophomore also - and I believe he has been running for a number of years (don’t know him either so who knows). If that’s the case - fair to assume newbie track kid has a much much higher ceiling - so yes he definitely could beat both those kids this year
I have no doubt that the kid can run something special on a fast course (as can all the top 10-20 returning runners) but I worry about him at Holmdel. Hope he proves me wrong as that would be an insane upset.
yep - more often than not, the kids who were training for and running road races at age 10-11 develop into top HS kids, but they hit their ceiling earlier too - I would certainly be wary of recruiting that kid as a college coach - I’d be concerned that too much of the upside was squeezed out pre-college. A kid who’s new to the sport, trains over the summer, then bangs out a sub 16 at Holmdel would be top of my list
Im sorry but if you aren’t trolling, then this is an absurd discussion. Barrett is probably a top 5-10 runner in the country, and pash top 15-20. “Fair to assume a newbie track kid has a much much higher ceiling” Barrett has 4 guys on his own team who ran 4:14-4:16 who aren’t gonna touch him at holmdel park.
Sure, if Devine (voorhees runner who ran 4:14 at moc as a soph) runs XC, sure he could place quite well in the state. He’s also presumably never raced at holmdel, and has never raced a 3200 in track. Those things take time to figure out.
Whoa let’s take a timeout here before anointing someone who’s never even stepped foot on a cross country course capable of beating talents like Pash and Barrett. Let’s reconnect after Devine’s first race at Holmdel.
You are correct. Barrett is the #4 returner in the country in the 3200 with his 8:43. Pash is the #8 returner in the country in the 1600 with his 4:04.
I don’t think any of the other incredible talented runners in the state are touching either of them in XC, let alone someone who has yet to race holmdel park.
I expect both of them to touch 15:00-15:10 at holmdel.
at least it’s apples to apples - whereas ur comparing to an entirely different sport. Ridiculous to assume a kid who placed that low against other under-classmen at 2023 x-country nationals would suddenly be T5. Smh
Has anyone asked the question about NXR NE? It now has been moved back a week before Thanksgiving, this year with Nov having an extra weekend not a problem but what will happen in most years when NXR NE and NJ MOC will be on the same day?
Not to derail this thread (again), but CBA and UC both absolutely recruit. And they both entice said recruits with full scholarships. This is a known fact.
Once again, what high schools are giving scholarships for xc athletes? Absolutely not a thing. CBA has been good for 50 years, with relatively few strings of bad years in the mix. I would find you hard pressed to find a reputable source to even say they recruit and/or offer full scholarships, let alone prove it as a “known fact”. Time and time again those people would be proven false. It’s a real tired argument at this point.
UC has had more recent success on the distance side, and has benefited through a large amount of transfers. But once again, until anyone actually brings any bit of evidence to light, it’s a really tired argument that happens every year because private school teams find success.
CBA does not recruit. The program recruits for itself. The coaches there are outstanding. UC gets transfers in all the time while CBA actually develops kids.

I KNEW IT!!!!!
lol
But seriously. I said it looked that way and one of y'all attacked me for that.
